Jonathan Berkery is a singer and musician. He is best known as the second son of renowned Welsh singer Tom Jones.

Who is Jonathan Berkery?

Jonathan Berkery, also known as Jon Jones, is a professional singer born in New Jersey, USA, on 27 September 1987. People mainly recognize him as the estranged child of one of the music industry’s biggest names, Tom Jones.

Jonathan took birth from a short-lived relationship between his father, Tom Jones, and mother, Katherine Berkery, a former model, and an estate agent. Tom Jones. His parents first met in 1987 at a nightclub in New York City. It followed a three-day fling between them, and after that, Sir Tom never came in contact with her. However, Katherine got pregnant and gave birth to Jonathan.

Have Tom Jones and Jonathan Berkery Ever Met?

Today, Jonathan is already 34 years old and is believed to have never met his father, Tom Jones, in person. He longed for a father figure when he was growing up and still sometimes wants to meet him. However, after Sir Tom publicly rejected him in 2008, he never got the opportunity.

Reportedly, Katherine learned about being pregnant with Sir Tom’s child three months after their first interaction in 1987. At that time, Sir Tom denied that it was his child. Later, in 1989, Katherine took the matter to court, after which the judge ordered a DNA test. The test proved that he fathered Jonathan.

Despite losing the court case, Sir Tom remained adamant and rejected Jonathan as his son. He agreed to pay paternity support of $2500 a month but denied providing any emotional support to the child. Sir Tom remained rigid on his foot and blamed everything on Katherine. He said,

It wasn’t something I had planned. If I had planned it, I would have done something more than just financially. But it wasn’t. I was tricked, really. I just fell for it.

Jonathan has also kept a status on his Twitter about never meeting his biological father. His status reads, “My would be stage name. Currently Jon Jones Berkery. Father never met or called me.”

Furthermore, on 11 June 2018, he shared a collage picture with his father and his singing. The first picture is of his father singing on stage and the second picture features him holding a guitar on the street. He captioned the photo, “Thanks Dad, do you want some Royalties when I sing your songs in the streets?”

He Grew Up An Angry Child

Deprived of a father figure while growing up, Jonathan grew up as an angry kid. In an interview with dailymail.co.uk in April 2013, he revealed how his father’s rejection ruined his teenage and adult years. He said,

It all stems back to my dad. I don’t think I realised it for a long time but I was one angry kid, crying out for a father.

At only 16 years of age, Jonathan started smoking weed to numb his inner pain. He later moved from weed to prescription pills and also to cocaine. As reported by Daily Mail, he said,

I tried to numb the pain with drugs – I’ve been smoking weed since I was 16, and I progressed to prescription pills, then ecstasy and cocaine.

Jonathan later received drug counseling and got away from the addiction. As of now, he is on his way to proving himself despite his father and carving out a singing career.

He Has A Half Sibling.

Jonathan has a half-sibling in Tom Jones’ first son, Mark Woodward. Mark was born from Sir Tom’s longtime marriage with his now late wife, Melinda Trenchard. The father-son duo of Tom Jones and Mark Woodward only share an age difference of 17 years and possess very similar facial features.

Like his father, Jonathan has also never met his half-brother, Mark Woodward.
