Who is Joe Hampton?

Joe Hampton is an American professional basketball player who started playing at six.

Hampton played for two years at DeMatha High School before being transferred to Oak Hill in Hyattsville. Then, in August 2014, he verbally committed to Penn State University over Xavier and DePaul, despite never being offered by his home state of Maryland.

Hampton left Penn State University in March 2015, following a 3-15 league season. However, amid the heralded recruiting class, he re-committed in May of the same year. Unfortunately, he flung his Anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) and missed the entirety of his senior year at Oak Hill.

Moreover, he also injured his other knee during a practice session at Penn State University, tearing his meniscus and lateral collateral ligament (LCL). During the recovery months, Hampton's mental state deteriorated because he had nothing to do. He was then suspended for a year, as he couldn't quit smoking and failed three drug tests.

However, Hampton moved back to his hometown of Washington, DC, and almost gave up playing. Instead, he moved to California two years later in 2017 and began attending Pasadena City College before transferring to ELAC in 2019.

As of 2021, Hampton plays for the Long Beach State.

How Old is Joe Hampton?

Joe Hampton was born on 30 January 1997 in Hyattsville, Maryland. As of December 2021, he is 24 years old.

He graduated from East Los Angeles College (ELAC) in 2020.

Jail

Before getting transferred to ELAC in 2019, a police officer had to take Hampton into custody after pulling him over for a shattered light. At the time, he also had pending warrants for theft and bank fraud.

However, he was released from jail after only 17 days because he was in contact with coach John Mosley, who wrote a letter to the judge on his behalf.

Where is Joe Hampton Now?

Hampton joined ELAC after being released from prison. In his one season, Hampton averaged 11.4 points, 3.6 rebounds, and 15 blocks a game as a Power Forward and Center for the ELAC Huskies. Because of this, California State University, Long Beach, or Long Beach State eventually signed him, and he returned to Division I basketball after a four-year hiatus. According to 247 Sports, he committed to Long Beach on 22 September 2021.

Hampton currently plays forward for Long Beach State's men's team in the NCAA Division 1 league. During his initial year at Long Beach State, he appeared in all 18 games and started 17 of them, a team-high. He was third on the team with 4.1 rebounds and 10.3 points per game.
