Both Dawn and Josh Heupel were from Josh's hometown Aberdeen, South Dakota. However, they met each other when they became classmates at Aberdeen Central High School at the age of 16. The two became friends, and their friendship quickly turned into a romantic relationship.
Even though the pair dated on and off during their high school years, they eventually reconciled and exchanged wedding vows.

Dawn is a former athlete who played volleyball and basketball in her college years. She was also a violinist, and she received an architecture degree from her college. 'She was a good athlete and involved in a million things," Josh shared in an interview with UCF Knights in 2019.

"Brian's perspective of me as a coach and also knowing my wife Dawn--interacting with him and knowing who we are--probably helped spark this opportunity. It gave me an opportunity to talk to Danny and interview with the decision-makers here, and I'm pretty glad it worked out the way it did," Josh said.

Dawn not only supports Josh's professional life, she equally enjoys playing sports with her husband. She was playing golf together with her husband as of 2019.
In an interview with UCFKnights in 2019, Josh described Dawn as "super-competitive" and "super-athletic."
Josh also asserted that she would go out and do anything. He said, "So, we've gotten to the point the past three years where we'll go out and jump on the course, and hopefully no one is behind us and we can play at our own pace. We play from 200 to 250 out and just have some fun."
Josh Heupel Is Grateful To His Wife
During his Intro Presser as Tennessee head coach on 27 January 2021, Josh expressed his gratitude towards his wife for being the biggest supporter in his life. He said, "I also want to take this time to thank my wife Dawn, who's been my copilot in life. She's probably piloting most of the time when I'm at the office."
Josh also acknowledged his daughter and son during the Intro Presser.

Dawn and Josh have one daughter named Hannah and one son named Jace. Both Hannah and Jace share a common interest in sports like their parents.
Speaking with UCFKnights in 2019, Josh shared that his children involve in varied sports. He added, "The best part of it is our kids—name the activity and they are into it."
He also said his daughter is into dance, piano, artistic, and proficient in sports like basketball, volleyball, golf, and tennis.
"She is the most competitive person I've ever met, which is saying something. She got the best of that from her mom and dad," he shared.
Josh's son is also into baseball, football, basketball. Josh said his son also plays a little bit of golf and swims.
Her Husband Is A Multimillionaire
The yearly earning salary of Dawn's husband is in the millions. Knox News reported in March 2021 that Josh's 2021 salary was $4 million as a head coach at the University of Tennessee.
He will earn $4 million annually through the 2026 season as per his six-year contract with Tennessee, which he signed on 27 January 2021.
Josh previously earned $2.3 million annually as the head coach at the University of Central Florida.
