Pettiford and Rader released their second album in the collection, Velvet Sky. The album has thirteen tracks. The songs were written by Pettiford and a writing team of Ron Abel, Chuck Steffan, Michael Orland, and Jamie Wooten. The songs were mostly focused on the love and relationship between parents and children. In addition, the album also has softer tracks for children of all ages to sleep to.

From 1995 to 1996, she starred as Julie in a touring production of Show Boat.
Pettiford began appearing in movies at 18 in 1978. Her movie credits include Glitter (2001), Stomp the Yard (2007), and Jumping the Broom (2011).
Pettiford also appeared on daytime soap operas from the 1990s. She played the role of Sheila Price in Another World and One Life to Live.
