Who is Tom Skerritt?

Tom Skerritt, full name Thomas Roy Skerritt, is an American actor born on 25 August 1933 in Detroit, MI. 

He is the youngest child among three brothers and sisters. Skerritt went to Wayne State University and the University of California, Los Angeles, after graduating from Mackenzie High School in Detroit in 1951. 

The actor later entered the United States Air Force as a classifications specialist shortly after graduating from high school and followed for four years. He spent most of his service at Bergstrom Field in Austin, Texas.

Before making his film debut in War Hunt in 1962, he was initially spotted in a UCLA production of The Rainmaker in the same year. Subsequently, he spent most of the next decade on television, appearing in shows such as Combat! (1962), The Virginian (1962), Gunsmoke (1955), and 12 O'Clock High (1964). 

Skerritt's next major break came in 1970 in Robert Altman's caustic comedy MASH. He also appeared in several other films before landing the coveted part of Capt. Dallas of the ill-fated commercial towing vehicle Nostromo in the frightening sci-fi epic Alien.

Skerritt has been working steadily for the past ten years giving performances in television shows, made-for-TV movies, and large theatrical productions. In the TV adaptation of High Noon (2000), he played Will Kane, and he co-starred with Bruce Willis in the mercenary war thriller Tears of the Sun (2003).

Besides that, Skerritt has received numerous nominations and accolades, including the 'Primetime Emmy Award' for 'Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series' for Picket Fences, which he won in 1993.

Skerritt has been married three times. He tied the knot with Charlotte R Shanks for the first time in 1957. However, the couple divorced in December 1972 after nearly one and half decades. They have three children: Andy, Erin, and Matt.

In 1976, he married his second spouse Susan Ellen Aran, but the pair divorced on 31 July 1990. They are the parents of a single son named Colin. 

Then in 1988, Skeritt married his third and current wife, Julie Tokashiki, with whom he shares a daughter named Emi.
