Boss made his television debut in 2013, competing as a young dancer on the CBS talent competition show Star Search, where he became a runner-up. He went on to become a semifinalist on MTV's short-lived dance reality show The Wade Robson Project later that year.
In 2007, Boss auditioned for the third season of Fox's reality TV dance competition show So You Think You Can Dance, where he did not make the top 20. Boss returned the show for the next season and finished as a runner-up in the finals. He would later appear as an "All-Star" dancer in the seventh, eighth, and ninth seasons of So You Think You Can Dance.
Boss has choreographed for South Korean pop/R&B singer Choi Dong-wook, alias Se7en. He has also taught dance classes and held workshops across the world.
In 2014, the dancer joined The Ellen DeGeneres Show as the residence DJ and served as a co-executive producer and occasional guest host of the show. He also served as Ellen DeGeneres' announcer and sidekick on Ellen's Game of Games from 2017 to 2021.

His Wife, Fellow Professional Dancer Allison Holker, Made The First Move For Their Relationship
Boss met Allison Holker for the first time during season two of So You Think You Can Dance in 2006 when their mutual friend Ivan Koumaev invited them to a party. However, the two did not build a connection until they appeared as "All-Stars" on season seven of the show in 2010.
They barely spoke to each other the entire season, but they began a romantic relationship at the end of the season. Holker admitted in an interview with Dance Spirit in 2012 that she believed Boss was the cutest guy from the first week of So You Think You Can Dance as "All-Stars."
She also shared that she was the one who made moves to connect with him. "I didn't just make one move — I made, like, 10 moves and he wasn't seeing them, so I had to put myself out there even more," she said.
In August 2010, the All-Stars attended the Step Up 3D premiere together, where Holker snagged Boss' number after dancing with him at the afterparty. The two then began talking with each other and finally started dating after dancing the entire night together during a So You Think You Can Dance season seven wrap party.
The pair eventually got engaged in 2013, when Boss proposed to Holker while they were filming a commercial. They ultimately married on 10 December 2013 at So You Think You Can Dance creator Nigel Lythgoe's Villa San-Juliette Vineyard & Winery in Paso Robles, California.
