Alex Perez is an ABC News national correspondent known for his works on Good Morning America and World News Tonight.

Who is Alex Perez?

Alex Perez is an American journalist who kicked off his journalism career in 2002, working as a reporter for WBKB-TV 11 in Alpena, Michigan. After that, he reported for KVIA-TV in El Paso, Texas, from 2003 to 2005. 

He also served as a reporter for NBC Chicago from 2005 to 2012, when he covered a variety of breaking news stories, including President Obama’s first campaign. 

Perez won the 2011 Marshall Memorial Fellowship through which he traveled across Europe. During his trip, he met government leaders, expanded his knowledge about the political landscape, and analyzed the EU’s financial crisis.

In March 2012, Perez joined ABC News as a correspondent and eventually became the national correspondent. After joining ABC News, he covered hurricanes along the east coast and Caribbean. 

He also covered the moments and subsequent uprisings after the police shot and killed Michael Brown in Ferguson, Missouri, in August 2014. Additionally, Perez covered the contentious 2016 presidential election and Pope Francis’ first Easter celebration in Rome.

As the correspondent and national correspondent, Perez also appeared on ABC News’ various programs, including Good Morning America, Nightline, World News Tonight, and 20/20.

Age, Parents, and Early Bio

Alex Perez was born on 27 March 1980 to his Cuban parents in Chicago, Illinois. According to him, he “defied the odds growing up as a Black kid in a relatively poor, violent neighborhood, becoming the first one in his family to attend college and pursue a career — not just a job.”

Perez graduated with a bachelor’s degree in broadcast journalism from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign in 2002 and subsequently began his career in journalism.

Is Alex Perez Gay?

Perez is openly gay. In a detailed story about his journey of coming out on Good Morning America in October 2020, he said he found himself different from other boys after hearing his friends’ conversation about attraction and feelings about girls when he was in fifth grade. However, he kept it secret from his classmates and family because of the fear of being ridiculed and abandoned. 

Perez said he later dated a woman who taught him about character and being true to oneself. He then first came out as gay to his mother in his mid-20s. He said that his decision to come out profoundly changed his life, allowing him to find and marry the love of his life.

Wedding

Perez is married to his husband, Kevin Gregory. They married in January 2018 in a wedding ceremony in front of friends and family members. He also shared a portrait of himself with Gregory on 11 January 2018 on Instagram and mentioned in the caption that they had a successful wedding video shoot and their wedding festivities were off to an amazing start.

The couple celebrated their fourth wedding anniversary in 2022 as Perez shared their wedding video on Instagram. In the caption, he wrote, “I do—4 years ago today. A blissful journey alongside a wonderful husband who makes every second worthwhile. Love you CB.”

As of January 2022, the pair live in Chicago with their French Bulldog named Javi.
