Marvin Scott is a renowned American veteran journalist and actor. He is best known for hosting the weekly issue-based news show PIX11 News Close Up on the WPIX TV network.


Who is Marvin Scott?

Marvin Scott is a multiple Emmy Award-winning journalist. He is currently associated with The CW affiliate New York-based TV network WPIX as their senior correspondent. Moreover, he hosts and anchors several programs on the channel, including the weekly show PIX11 News Close Up.

Scott first joined WPIX in 1980 after working as a reporter at WNEW-TV for some time. He initially began at WPIX as a news anchor. Later, he worked in different capacities in the organization, including reporter, news program host, and show producer, eventually making his way up to becoming the station’s senior correspondent.

A veteran of the journalism industry, Scott holds over five decades of working experience in the field. For his lifelong contribution and journalistic achievements, he has won a total of 11 'Emmy Awards.'

Scott has also flaunted his broadcasting and news casting skills on several TV series and movies. He debuted in the acting industry as a newsman in the 1982 film The King of Comedy. After that, he appeared as an interviewer in the 1983 TV movie, Once Upon a Time in America. His other acting works include Out of the Darkness (1985 TV movie), In the Mouth of Madness (1994 movie), August (2008 movie), etc.

Additionally, in 2007, Scott was the associate producer of the TV Special episode of The 50th Annual New York Emmy Awards.

Marvin Scott Has Been Part of Two Marriages

The award-winning journalist Scott has been married twice to date. In 1968, he married Joan Pollack, his first spouse. With Joan, he became a father to his two children, son Steven, and daughter Jill. However, after around 14 years and two kids together, they decided to part ways and legally divorced sometime in 1982.

As of now, Scott’s son Steven is a comedian, actor, and TV host. On the other hand, his daughter Jill is a reporter currently working for the American cable network, NY1.

Following the separation from his former spouse Joan, Scott remained unmarried for a long time. He then again found his true love in Lorri Gorman and tied wedding knots with her in 2004. Scott and his present wife, Lorri Gorman, have already completed 18 years as a married couple and are still together.

Marvin Scott’s Book ‘As I Saw It’

Besides journalism and acting, Scott is also involved in literature. He is the author of the book 'As I Saw It: A Reporter’s Intrepid Journey,' published on 30 July 2017.

'As I Saw It' is a 367-page book that reflects on Scott’s life journey to date. In it, he has shared events, scandals, and stories that have happened over the years and of which he was also a part. Some of the stories in the book include his marches alongside Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., the story of the everyman hero Charlie Walsh, about the 11-year-old girl Stephaine Collado who needed a heart, local tragedies, crimes and redemptions, etc.

On 8 July 2017, Scott uploaded a picture with his book on his Facebook handle named after himself.
