James William Nantz III was born on 17 May 1959 in Charlotte, North Carolina. He went to the University of Houston in Texas, where he majored in broadcasting.
At college, he was a Houston Cougars Men's Golf Team member, where he shared a dorm with future professional players Fred Couples and Blaine McCallister. During this period, Nantz had his first exposure to sports reporting. Before joining CBS Sports, he briefly worked as an anchor and sportscaster for KSL TV in Salt Lake City.
Nantz was selected by sending interview tapes to the Sports Central USA weekend broadcasters on the CBS Radio Network. And he became one of the most recognized sportscasters for his coverage of the NFL, NCAA basketball, and the Master's golf event.
Following his popularity, in 2008 and 2009, he received the 'Emmy Award' for 'Outstanding Sports Personality Play-by-Play.' In addition, he is also the recipient of the 'National Sportscaster of the Year Award' from the NSSA five times, in 1998, 2005, 2007, 2008, and 2009.
Furthermore, Nantz was awarded the 'Pete Rozelle Radio-Television Award from the 'Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2011. And in 2012, the 'LA Sports & Entertainment Commission' honored him with the 'Ambassador Award of Excellence' for his community commitment.
Wife and Children
Nantz was initially married to Lorraine 'Lorrie' Carlsen from 1983 to 2009. After marrying, they settled in Westport, Connecticut, and had their daughter, Caroline, in 1994.
Their marriage ended in 2009 when Lorrie filed for divorce. Showbiz Cheatsheet reported that the amount he asked by the court was $916,000 a year, and he gave up their Connecticut house.
The same year, Nantz began dating Courtney Richards, who is 20 years his junior. Then a year later, in 2010, they were engaged and married on 9 June 2012.
Their first child, daughter Finley Cathleen, was born in 2014, and their second son, Jameson, was born in 2016. Reportedly, six days after Jameson's birth, Nantz was called to cover the Super Bowl 50 game between the Denver Broncos and the Carolina Panthers.

Later in an interview, Nantz said that his wife, Richards, encouraged him to host the show, despite their newborn. He recollected, "My wife made it very clear (before their son's birth): 'Don't even talk to me, you're doing the game. I was going to follow her instructions."
Nantz's Dream House
Nantz had had an image of his dream house since he was ten. He liked Pebble Beach in California, where his father used to take him as a child. And in 2010, he took his wife to Pebble Beach, after which he started looking for properties.
Eventually, in October of 2011, his realtor called him asking him about a house being for sale. He did not want to lose the alleged property, so he missed the upcoming New York Jets game rehearsals and flew to check the property.
Nantz out in the first and final offer and bought the house. He started renovations right away, which took a couple of months. He married Richards in that home where the renovations took place during the rehearsal dinner. As of now, his family resides on the property.
