Who is David Paymer?

David Paymer was born on 30 August 1954 in Long Island, NY, to Marvin Paymer and Sylvia Palmer. He is the younger brother of producer and actor Steve Paymer.

Paymer received his education from Lee Strasberg Theater Institute, Professional Performing Arts School. He graduated from high school in Oceanside, New York, and at that point, he didn't set out to be an actor despite appearing in high school musicals.

Rather, Paymer pursued psychology at the University of Rochester- mostly to satisfy his parents, who wished their son to be a doctor. However, he still performed in theater productions.

He later majored in acting and psychology at the School of Music and Theater University of Michigan (Ann Arbor, Michigan).

Movies

In 1982, Paymer was about to play the role of Dr. Wayne Fiscus in a TV series St. Elsewhere, but he was discarded and replaced by Howie Mandel. Then, however, he got his big break from his role of Ira Shalowitz in the movie City Slickers (1991), which starred Billy Crystal.

The actor also wrote and performed stand-up with his elder brother Steve at the Improv and Comedy store points. David and Steve later worked on a short movie, Candor City Hospital (2005).

Furthermore, Paymer played opposite Sir Anthony Hopkins two times. Firstly performing in the 1995 movie Nixon and subsequently in Amistad (1997), he played the role of a former U.S. President in both films. Additionally, he played Dick Goodwin in the 2002 made-for-TV flick RFK.
