Claire Holt is an Australian-American actress best recognized for her role as Rebekah Mikaeson in The CW supernatural teen drama series The Vampire Diaries.

Who is Claire Holt?

Claire Rhiannon Holt is an actress and model born on 11 June 1988 in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia, to her parents, Anne and John Holt. She grew up with her two sisters, Rachel and Madeline, and one brother, David.

Growing up, Holt enjoyed singing, swimming, volleyball, and playing piano and guitar. She was in her school choir, and she played water polo. She also became a black belt in Tae Kwon Do.

In 2005, she graduated from Stuartholme School in her hometown of Brisbane. After graduating from high school, she wanted to be a Doctor and only did commercials for extra money. However, she discontinued her education and ultimately began her career as an actress. 

Holt made her acting debut in 2006, portraying the role of Emma Gilbert in the Network Ten children’s fantasy drama series H2O: Just Add Water. Her role in the series won her a ‘Logie Award’ and ‘Nickelodeon Australia Kids’ Choice Award.’ However, she left the series after two seasons when she got an offer for a film. Subsequently, she made her film debut in the 2009 supernatural horror film Messengers 2: The Scarecrow, a sequel to the 2007 film The Messenger. The film was released straight to DVD. 

After that, Holt appeared as Chastity Meyer in the 2011 comedy TV movie Mean Girls 2. The same year, she appeared in a recurring role of Samara Cook in the romantic mystery drama TV series Pretty Little Liars. She also landed her breakout role as Rebekah Mikaelson in the hit supernatural teen drama TV series The Vampire Diaries in 2011. Holt appeared in the third and fourth seasons of the series from 2011 to 2013 and made a special cameo in two episodes of Season 5.

Holt reprised her role as Rebekah Mikaelson in the backdoor pilot of The Vampire Diaries spin-off The Originals, which premiered on 3 October 2013. She exited the series as a series regular in the 16th episode of Season 1 and returned to her role in the Season 1 finale. She then occasionally guest-starred on the series until the series ended in 2018. She later made a special cameo in a couple of episodes of The Originals spin-off The Legacies in 2021 and 2022.

Holt’s other TV acting credits included Charmain Tully in the TV series Aquarius (2015-2016) and Kayla in the TV movie Doomsday (2017). Additionally, she has appeared in several films such as Blue Like Jazz (2012), 47 Meters Down (2017), The Divorce Party (2019), A Violent Separation (2019), Untitled Horror Movie (2021), and Painted Beauty (2021).

She Has Been Married Twice

Holt dated English actor Rafi Gavron from 2009 to 2010. Later, she married film producer Matthew Kaplan on 28 April 2016. However, their marriage lasted for less than a year as Kaplan filed for divorce from Holt on 27 April 2017, just a day before their first anniversary. Kaplan cited “irreconcilable differences” as the reason for their divorce. They had no children together.

After her divorce from her first husband, Holt began dating real estate executive Andrew Joblon. She went public with their relationship through an Instagram post on 24 July 2017. In December of the same year, the couple got engaged, and they ultimately married in August 2018.

She Had Suffered A Miscarriage 

Holt had suffered a devastating miscarriage in early 2018. She took to Instagram on 4 March 2018 to reveal that she had suffered a miscarriage. She posted a snap of herself from the hospital bed and described in the caption that she had surgery in late February 2018 after her baby lost its heartbeat, and that was the most heartbreaking moment of her life. She further detailed that she felt it important to make her private struggle public because the topic was not “often or openly discussed.” She also appreciated her husband for her unconditional love and support for her.

She Has Two Children

After a heartbreaking miscarriage, Holt welcomed his first child, son James Holt Joblon on 28 March 2019 with her husband, Andrew Joblon. The couple welcomed their second child, daughter Elle, on 12 September 2020.
