Chris Geere is an English actor best known for playing Jimmy Shive-Overly in the American romantic comedy-drama television series, You're the Worst (2014-2019).

Who is Chris Geere?

Chris Geere is an actor who launched his acting career on stage with the Royal Shakespeare Company. He then debuted on British television in 2002, appearing as a medical student in the television series TLC.

He went on to play bit parts on television series like Adventure Inc., Casualty, The Bill, Family Affairs, and Bombshell before landing his first notable role as a drama teacher Matt Wilding in the British drama series Waterloo Road. He appeared in 54 episodes, appearing in the third, fourth, and seventh seasons from 2007 to 2012.

Geere's breakthrough came after he landed the lead role of Jimmy Shive-Overly in the American romantic comedy-drama series, You're the Worst, opposite Aya Cash. Created by Stephen Falk, the series premiered on 17 July 2014 and concluded after five successful seasons on 3 April 2019. 

He also appeared in recurring roles on television series such as Modern Family, This Way, Single Parents, and The First Team in the late 2010s. In 2021, he appeared as Phillip on the hit series This Is Us.

In addition to his work on television series, Geere appeared in several films. He made his film debut in the 2003 comedy-drama film Wondrous Oblivion. He later appeared in films, including Blood and Chocolate (2007), Clean Skin (2012), After Earth (2013), Pokémon Detective Pikachu (2019), and Hot Mess Holiday (2021).

'This Is Us'

Geere joined the Season 5 Episode 12 titled 'Both Things Can Be True' of NBC's popular romantic comedy-drama series, This is Us that aired on 6 April 2021.

In Season 5, Kate (played by Chrissy Metz), one of the main characters of the series, becomes the co-worker of Phillip (played by Geere) after getting a job as an assistant music teacher at the music school for blind children. At the end of the Season 5 finale, the flash-forward sequence showed Kate getting remarried to Phillip.

Geere reprised the role of Phillip in the sixth and final season of This Is Us, which premiered on 4 January 2022. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly in December 2021, he revealed that Kate and Phillip's relationship would be professional at first. Then it would turn at some point. He also hinted that their relationship could be good for Kate. He said, "Whether that is connected with the collapse of the marriage to build up another, I don't know. But I do know that from that flash-forward scene, she ends up happy. So she's not a bad relationship. She's with the guy that she wants. I just hope I can portray that guy."

Parents and Early Bio

Geere was born to his parents in Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, England, on 18 March 1981. He was brought up in Winchester, Hampshire, where his parents still live. His father had a job of reviving failing newspapers. So because of that, while growing up, his family moved around different places across the United Kingdom with short stints in Hong Kong and Phoenix, Arizona.

Geere was initially interested in pursuing a career as an artist. However, he developed an interest in acting after his drama teacher encouraged him to play in his school's production of A Midsummer Night's Dream. Geere later graduated from Guildford School of Acting.

Wife and Son

Geere is married to American singer-songwriter and pianist Jennifer Sawdon. The couple became parents when they welcomed their first child, a son named Freddie, in 2012.
