Louis Partridge is an English actor best known as Tewkesbury for his appearance in the original Netflix movie Enola Holmes.

Who is Louis Patridge?

Louis Patridge made his acting debut as Alf in an episode of the 2014 comedy series Boomers. The same year, he appeared in two short films, Beneath Water and About a Dog. He also starred in the short film Second Skin as Nature Boy in 2016 and the survival drama film Amazon Adventure as Young Henry Bates in 2017.

Eventually, the actor’s breakthrough appearance came in the 2019 historical thriller Medici.

Partridge came to the limelight on 23 September 2020 after his portrayal in the mystery movie  Enola Holmes movie alongside actress Millie Bobby Brown.

His forthcoming project includes a six-part series, Sex Pistols by Danny Boyle. In the biopic series based on Sex Pistol guitarist Steve Jones’ 2016 memoir, Partridge plays Sid Vicious, the band’s bass player and vocalist. He will also play a famous book character, Peter Pan, in the upcoming 2021 fantasy film The Lost Girls.

Early Life

Louis Partridge was born in London, England, on 3 June 2003. Partridge’s father wanted him to pursue a career in acting, but Patridge could not do so as his mother opposed it, stating, “You will not earn a penny,’ and adding, “You’ll need to get a proper job.”

But when Partridge passionately expressed his wish to become an actor even at a young age, he received support from his parents.

Partridge developed an interest in acting after he played Maid Marian in an all-boys production of Robin Hood when he was ten years old. At that age, when all kids were playing rugby on weekends, Partridge was on set learning acting. He also did some extra work, such as walking in the back of things on Call the Midwife. After that, he began making short films and was seriously involved in acting. However, Partridge did not go to any drama school or any official acting classes.

As Patridge was Growing up adoring acting, Leonardo DiCaprio’s films became his major acting influence. Later, Timothee Chalamet’s impressive career encouraged him to pursue his career in acting.

Early Career

In 2014, at age 11, Patridge made his acting debut as Alf in an episode of the comedy series Boomers, a BBC One sitcom that follows the story of three late-middle-aged couples coming to terms with retirement. The same year, he appeared in two short films, Beneath Water and About a Dog. ButThe turning point of his career came at age 12 when he became enamored with acting after playing in a short film Beneath Water. Recalling his experience playing in the short film, Partridge said, “Beneath Water was the first time I got properly involved in a project.” He continued, “I remember wrapping, and dreading going back to my comparably dull school week. I just got the greatest buzz from being on set — something I hadn’t ever had before.”

In 2016, he played Nature Boy in the short film Second Skin and played Young Henry Bates in the film Amazon Adventure in 2017.

‘Paddington’

Louis played G-Man in Paddington 2, a 2017 live-action comedy sequel film based on the children’s book character of the same name. However, his scene was removed in the final cut. He was only given credit in the film.

The film also starred Hugh Bonneville and Hugh Grant, who received a perfect score from Rotten Tomatoes for their acting. However, the one added negative review knocked the film from its perfect Rotten Tomatoes score.

The 245 previous acclaimed reviews conferred the film the perfect score, but one film critic named Eddie Harrison came up with a negative review in May 2021 after more than three years of its release. Marking the 246th review, film critic Harrison stated that he had reviewed the film negatively multiple times since its release. He elucidated, “I reviewed ‘Paddington 2’ negatively for BBC radio on release in 2017, and on multiple occasions after that, and I stand by every word of my criticism.” He continued, “This is not my Paddington Bear, but a sinister, malevolent imposter who should be shot into space, or nuked from space at the first opportunity. Over-confident, snide and sullen, this manky-looking bear bears little relation to the classic character, and viewers should be warned; this ain’t yo mamma’s Paddington bear, and it won’t be yours either. Maybe if you’ve never seen the tv show and don’t know any better, this’ll work, but long-term Paddington fans will find this too much to bear.”

With the last negative review, the film’s rating dropped 1% down in the movie rating site Rotten Tomatoes from its flawless 100% positive review list and remained at a 99% rating.

‘Medici’

Medici, the 2019 Netflix historical thriller TV series, was the actor’s breakout role. Set during the Italian Renaissance, the show focused on the notorious Medici family, who served as bankers to the Pope. Louis appeared in four episodes of the total eight episodes in season 3 playing Piero de’ Medici, the eldest son of Clarice Orsini and Lorenzo Medici.

‘Enola Holmes’

The film Enola Holmes, starring Patridge and British actress Millie Bobby Brown, was released on 23 September 2020. The film follows Enola Holmes, Sherlock Holmes’ younger sister, as she embarks on a quest to find her missing mother. Having embarked on the journey, Enola meets the enigmatic Tewksbury, played by Louis Partridge, fleeing from his cruel uncle and his imminent lordship.

Enola then sets out to rescue him, which leads to a subplot in the form of a reverse fairy tale. Partridge’s brilliant, fresh, and endearing portrayal of a “damsel in distress” undoubtedly made him one of the most popular characters in the film.

On Playing Tewksbury

The young actor shared a funny moment when he realized that he would be playing Tewksbury in the movie. He was about to take an exam the same day he got the good news. Even though his career was progressing, the outcome of his exam that day was quite the opposite.

“I mean I found out on the day of the exam in the morning and I went in the exam completely, I couldn’t even concentrate. I was just so buzzing because I just found out that I got this part,” Partridge recalled. “I did really badly, lowest mark I ever got ... I cannot concentrate.”

Sharing about the excitement of his movie release, Patridge later posted on his Instagram, “So Enola comes out tomorrow morning and it feels like Christmas Eve or a birthday or something. Thank you to everyone who’s supported me in my acting journey so far. It’s still so surreal that I’m a part of this project, it wasn’t long ago that I was working as an extra or finding out my scene had been cut from Paddington 2 but it’s all part of the process. Thanks to Millie and everyone who believed in me, I hope you enjoy the film and appreciate how much we put into it, let’s have it!! – Tewks.”

Bringing a cheeky appeal to his character, Partridge saw a resemblance of Lord Tewksbury with his character and said that sitting down and trying to take a character off the page was a brilliant experience for him.

The film was adapted from Nancy Springer’s adult fiction book series ‘The Enola Holmes Mysteries.’

Louis Partridge and Millie Brown

Louis attributed his producer and co-star, Millie Bobby Brown, who helped him gain confidence in the role. Expressing his gratitude for the opportunity to work with actor Brown and about their chemistry, Louis said, “I was very, very grateful for that when acting alongside her, and there was this chemistry that had been developed off-screen that we could bring on-screen. I loved it.” For both on-screen and off-screen bonding, Partridge appreciated Brown’s ability to make close relationships with people. He said, “She has a great way of making you feel completely at home, and like you’ve known each other for ages.”

The friendly relationship with Brown also helped Partridge calm down his nerves even though she was one of the film producers.

Another factor that helped him get easy-going with Brown was because he hadn’t seen the Stranger Things star’s Netflix series when he met her. “I quite liked it that way. I wasn’t quite nervous to meet her which made it easier ... it was quite easy because she’s not in any way entitled or anything. It was really easy to build a relationship with her,” Partridge said.

He also felt fortunate because the two shared around the same age. In addition, since his majority of shoots were with Brown, it aided in their off-screen bonding. “I did all of my scenes with her, a lot of time, of shoots with her, so much time, and I think that really helped to build this relationship off screen and to then bring on to it,” he added.

‘Enola Holmes 2’

On 13 March 2021, Enola Holmes leading actress Brown revealed on her Instagram post that Enola Holmes 2 had begun its development, captioning, “the sequel is afoot #EnolaHolmes2.” She is set to reprise her role as Enola, yet there is no update if Partridge would reprise his role in the sequel. However, he had once said that he was ready to come back for another adventure as Lord Tewksbury and also shared some desire to add some action roles for his character. “I would love to come back. I saw somebody commenting on Instagram saying, ‘Wouldn’t it be cool if we found out that Tewksbury had something to do with Moriarty and he was a villain.’ I was like, ‘Oh, imagine! That would be a plot twist!’ There’s so many avenues [we can take it]. It was kept really up in the air about Enola and Tewksbury’s relationship. Is it friendship? Is it romance? It’s a bit of both love, not solely one thing. Playing around with that and maybe it goes one way or another. I also want Tewksbury to have a little bit of action and to prove himself to be a bit more independent than he was last film,” Partridge exclusively shared Seventeen.

Enola Holmes is an adaptation of Nancy Springer’s bestselling six-volume book series titled ‘An Enola Holmes Mystery. The author has added the seventh book in the series, and it has been expected to be published on 31 August 2021.

The first movie Enola Holmes was based on the first novel of the book series titled ‘The Case of the Missing Marquess’ published in 2006, and it is expected the sequel Enola Holmes 2 would follow the second book of the series, ‘The Case of the Left-Handed Lady.’

Upcoming Projects

Partridge will play Sid Vicious, the former bass player and vocalist of the punk rock band, in the 2021 Danny Boyle’s six-part series Sex Pistols. The series will also showcase the tragic love story of Sid Vicious and Nancy Spungen.

In the biopic movie, Patridge co-stars with Emma Appleton, who plays Nancy Spungen, a woman who was found dead after being stabbed at the New York Hotel that she shared with her boyfriend, Sid. Based on guitarist Steve Jones’ 2018 memoir titled ‘Lonely Boy: Tales from a Sex Pistol,’ the upcoming biographical drama series will be directed by Oscar-winner Boyle. The series is slated to be released in 2022 on FX and Hulu.

The Enola Holmes actor will also play in the upcoming fantasy film The Lost Girls, playing another popular book character. The film, set in 2021, is a dark retelling of the story of Peter Pan and Wendy. Partridge’s character is none other than Peter Pan himself, and the film is currently in post-production. Adapted from Laurie Fox’s 2003 novel of the same title, the fantasy film The Lost Girls will tell the new and darker side of the story of Peter Pan and will focus on a plot twist involving four generations of Darling women. Director Livia De Paolis explained, “The Lost Girls ultimately speaks to women of all ages as it contemplates the contradictory human yearnings for freedom and safety in a moving and upbeat story of motherhood, enchantment and love.”

The story follows the story of Wendy, who tries to escape her daughter Berry from Pan’s orbit to protect her relationship with her daughter, like her grandmother and her mother Jane did before her.
