Willy Chirino is popularly known worldwide for being the creator of the Miami Sound. Miami Sound was a fusion band with Cuban music, rock, jazz, Brazilian, and Caribbean rhythms. He was initially was signed by CBS and Sony Music Records. But he started his music label, Latinum Music Inc., in 1997. And since then, it has produced for many international artists, including Judro Raphael, Oscar D'Leon, Celia Cruz, and Magneto.

Early Life and Age 

Although Chirino has not disclosed yet, he is speculated to have been born on 5 April 1947. Which makes him 74 years in age as of 2021. However, he has confirmed his birth date as 5 April. He was born in Consolacion del Sur, a small town in western Cuba. He left Cuba at the age of 14 as an initiative started by the Catholic Church, which brought him to the United States. And while growing up, he was inspired by art, and he wanted to become a portrait in the future. 

Awards and Honours 

Although Chirino has been awarded tens of awards in his lifetime, his major includes the 2006 'Grammy Awards.' He won that under the 'Best Salsa Merengue Album' category for Son Sel Alma's. Likewise, in 2007, he was nominated for a 'Latin Grammy' for 'Best Salsa' for 35 Aniversario- En Vivo

Furthermore, he won a 'Gold Records' for Zarabanda in 1990, and then in 1992, he won the same for the album Oxigeno. Then, in 1993, he was given 'Platinum Records' for the albums South BeachAsere, and Afro-disaic. In 1993, he was also named 'King of Miami's Calle Ocho Festival.' Then in 1995, a section of NW 17th Avenue in Miami was named as 'Willy Chirino Way.' In addition, he has also been recognized by UNICEF for the work conducted by The Willy Chirino Foundation. 

Wife

Willy Chirino was initially married to Olga Maria Rodriguez, with whom he had three daughters. Namely, Angie, Jessica, and Olga Maria. He eventually divorced her and then got remarried.  

In 1965 he got married to the Cuban musician Lissette Alvarez. And they have been together ever since, making it over 30 years of marriage. Alvarez is best known for her Spanish version of Bonnie Tyler's song 'Total Eclipse of the Heart' released in 1985. Furthermore, he had three children with her, Gianfranco, Alana, and Nicolle. Chirino is also a grandfather to Dashiel, Elis Regina, and Andres.
