Attending the University of Nebraska, he played four seasons of collegiate football, from 2008 to 2012, appearing in 50 games and recording 247 tackles. His gameplay helped Nebraska have one of the best pass defense teams in the country in 2012.
Following that, he entered the NFL in 2013 as a newbie free agent of the Washington Football Team and was simultaneously signed to its practice squad. Compton spent five seasons with the Washington Redskins football team and was even the team’s captain in 2016. Subsequently, in 2018, he was signed as an undrafted free agent by the Tennessee Titans and contributed as a free agent to Oakland Raiders and New Orleans Saints in 2019. After that, he returned to working as a free agent for Titans in 2020 and was signed to the Titans practice squad the same year.
On 7 December 2021, Compton was added to the Las Vegas Raiders practice squad. And four days later, he was added to the team's active roster.
