Walter Robert Szczerbiak is an American former Pro basketball player born on 5 March 1977 in Madrid, Spain. He spent most of his initial years in Europe as his father, Walter, was a part of the American Basketball Association (ABA).

Szczerbiak debuted his NBA career on 5 November 1999 after being picked 6th overall by The Minnesota Timberwolves. In 2002, he was a coach's choice for the Western Conference All-Star team. On 26 January 2006, Szczerbiak was traded to the Boston Celtics. The same year, he had surgery to repair his injured knee in the offseason. From 2007 to 2008, he played for Seattle SuperSonics after being traded along with Jeff Green and Delonte West for Glen Davis and Ray Allen.

Following that, the SuperSonics traded Szczerbiak to the Cleveland Cavaliers in a three-team deal on 21 February 2008. He averaged 8.2 points and 3.2 rebounds in 25 regular-season games in one start for the Cavaliers. Szczerbiak appeared in 74 games for the NBA during the 2008–2009 season, starting five of them. In August 2009, Szczerbiak was in talks with the Denver Nuggets about signing a one-year contract. However, he turned down the contract offer. The same year, Szczerbiak retired after undergoing a third surgery on his left knee.

In 2010, he began working for CBS Sports as a college basketball analyst and is still working there as of January 2022. Szczerbiak has also worked as a studio commentator for MSG Network since 2012, appearing on before and post-game broadcasts for the New York Knicks.

Szczerbiak spent his high school years on Long Island, where he averaged 15.9 rebounds and 36.6 points as a senior at Cold Spring Harbor High School in 1994-1995.

Szczerbiak attended Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, and played for the Miami RedHawks. During his time there, he scored 1,847 points, which spanned the 1995-1996 and 1998-1999 seasons. Szczerbiak is one of only two University of Miami student-athletes to have been titled to the MAC All-Tournament team three times. He earned a bachelor's degree in marketing from Miami University's Richard T. Farmer School of Business.

Szczerbiak was born to Walter, a former American Basketball Player, and his mother, Marilyn Wynn Szczerbiak. His father played for Real Madrid and won three European League titles. Szczerbiak has two younger siblings, Will and Wendy. After his father retired from the American Basketball Association (ABA), they moved back to Long Island, New York.

His grandparents are Ukrainian. After WWII, they met in a German refugee camp and immigrated to Pittsburgh with no savings. His grandmother eventually washed dishes for a living, while his grandfather worked as a storage clerk and wasted his money on carousing. The couple eventually divorced, and Szczerbiak's father's five brothers and sisters struggled with debt and divorce in the following years, with one of them dying young.
