Plays Sam Obisanya in Apple TV+ Series 'Ted Lasso'

'The Power' is an upcoming Amazon Prime series based on Naomi Alderman’s award-winning 2016 science fiction novel of the same name. Jimoh plays the Nigerian aspiring journalist Tunde, who gets his first experience of the Power from Adunola (played by Little Simz).


Toheeb Jimoh is a British actor best known for playing Sam Obisanya in the sports comedy-drama television series Ted Lasso (2020-present).

Who is Toheeb Jimoh?

Toheeb Jimoh is a stage, television, and film actor who made his on-screen debut as Ryan in the 2015 short film Lia

His second on-screen acting role came only in 2019 when he guest-starred as Leshae Hobbs in one episode of the BBC One mystery crime-drama television series London Kills. He then played Marcus in Amazon Original sci-fi drama series The Feed.

In 2020, Jimoh secured the lead role as an African-American teenager Anthony Walker in the BBC One docu-drama TV movie Anthony. The same year, he earned a breakout role as Sam Obisanya in the ‘Emmy Award’-winning Apple TV+ series Ted Lasso. In addition, Jimoh would appear as Tunde in the upcoming Amazon Prime drama series The Power.

Besides his television appearance, Jimoh has played in the 2021 romantic comedy-drama film The French Dispatch.

As a theater actor, he performed in A Midsummer Night’s Dream at Crucible Theatre in Sheffield and Nine Lessons and Carols at the Almeida Theatre in London. 

Age and Early Bio

Jimoh was born on 15 April 1997 in England to Nigerian parents. He grew up primarily in England, but he also spent time in Nigeria as a child.

He considers his parents as his most significant source of motivation. ”I’ve always looked at their stories coming from Nigeria to work and start their family in the U.K and the sacrifices they’ve made for my brother and I. I’ve always wanted to be the kind of man my Dad is. My parents always were and still are at the top of that list,” He said in a 2021 interview with Contents.

Jimoh took acting training at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, where he performed in multiple musicals and plays, including Fiddler on the RoofLet Me Not Play a WomanKing Lear, and The Seagull. He graduated from drama school in 2018.

‘Ted Lasso’

Ted Lasso is the sports comedy-drama series that premiered on 14 August 2020. It follows the story of American college football coach Ted Lasso (played by Jason Sudeikis), who moves to London to manage a struggling English Premier League soccer team, AFC Richmond. 

Jimoh portrays the role of Sam Obisanya, a young Nigerian footballer who, in Season 1, finds his place within the club after leaving his family and country. Sam gains notoriety in Season 2 as he becomes a leader within the team. Jimoh will also reprise the role in Season 3.

Ted Lasso also has won nearly 50 awards, including seven Primetime Emmy Awards. The series has also earned over 80 award nominations. Jimoh also won the ‘Breakthrough Award’ for Ted Lasso at the Critics Choice Association’s fourth annual Celebration of Black Cinema & Television in 2021.

‘The Power’

The Power is an upcoming Amazon Prime series based on Naomi Alderman’s award-winning 2016 science fiction novel of the same name. Directed by Reed Morano, the series follows a group of teenage girls who mysteriously develop an ability to release electric current from their fingers, allowing them their rise to power across the world. 

Jimoh plays the Nigerian aspiring journalist Tunde, who gets his first experience of the Power from Adunola (played by Little Simz).
