Early Life and Education

Sinéad Cusack, birth name, Jane Moira Cusack, was born on 18 February 1948, in Dalkey, Ireland, to Mary Margaret "Maureen" Kiely and Cyril James Cusack. She is 78 years as of 2021. 

Cusack is an Irish descendant. Her father, Cyril James, was born to an Irish father and English mother. Both of her parents were Theatre actors. Following her parents' footsteps, Cusack started acting at the Abbey Theatre in Dublin. In 1975, she moved to London to join the Royal Shakespeare Company. 

Career

Sinéad's first big break in acting was with Peter Sellers in the film Hoffman in 1970, while she was still acting at Abbey Theatre. She guest-starred as Jenny Lindley in an episode of The Persuaders! starring Roger Moore and Tony Curtis in 1971. 

She then moved to London in 1975 and made appearances in three episodes of the TV show Quiller as Roz. She debuted on Broadway in 1984, performing as Roxane in Anthony Burgess' translation of Edmond Rostand's original Cyrano de Bergerac with the Royal Shakespeare Company. Cyrano de Bergerac was adapted into a movie in 1985 as Much Ado About Nothing starring the same cast. For the movie, Cusack's character's name was changed from Roxane to Beatrice. She received her first-ever 'Tony Awards' nomination for the movie.

Cusack has four siblings, and three of them are actors. She is the sister of actresses Niamh Cusack, Sorcha Cusack and half-sister to Catherine Cusack. Sorcha Cusack is just a year younger than Sinéad. She is known for movies like Jane Eyre (1973), Snatch (2000), and Father Brown (2013). 

Her 67-year-old sister Niamh has the movie credits of Matterhorn (2007), Hereafter (2010), and Testament of Youth (2014). And, her 58-year-old half-sister Catherine Cusack is known for her performance in the movies Doctor Who (1963), The Lonely Passion of Judith Hearne (1987), and Neverland (2004).

Cusack's brother Pádraig Cusack is an Executive Producer for Wales Millennium Centre in Cardiff, Wales. He is also the Creative Producer for the National Centre for the Performing Arts (NCPA) in Mumbai, India. Before that and until 2017, he worked as the Associate Producer for the National Theatre in London. His most recent screen production is My Country (2017). 

Sinéad Cusack has been married to British actor Jeremy Irons since 28 March 1978. They have two children.
