Throat Cancer and Sidney Barney Today
Barney revealed in February 2020 to People magazine that he was diagnosed with stage three throat cancer. He said he first noticed his salivary glands were swollen on one side in May 2019, which doctors initially thought was just an infection. However, a biopsy and ultrasound showed that other areas, including the side of his neck, were also affected. Barney was ultimately diagnosed with cancer.
A follow-up appointment with new top doctors discovered that cancer had spread into Barney’s throat, tonsils, and lymph nodes. They considered surgery, but a biopsy found the cancer was too spread out, so Barney would need to undergo dual chemotherapy and radiation treatment.
In January 2020, Barney began his treatment plan. He underwent chemotherapy every three weeks and radiation every day, five days a week, for a total of seven weeks. He told People the pain he endured while going through the treatment process. “It basically attacks all of your organs. You’re like poisoned. It’s been killing me. If I had a choice, I probably wouldn’t have done chemo and radiation at the same time, but that’s what they recommended. It’s like hitting your head with a hammer and pouring gas on yourself. I was ready to end it the other day, the symptoms were so bad. It’s almost [worse] than the cancer,” he said.
Nevertheless, Barney said he stayed strong and positive during his battle with cancer. Later, in July 2020, he posted a collage photo of himself on Instagram, captioning “Metamorphosis: Before, During and after treatment. Can you tell which is which...” After that, however, he did not share any updates regarding his health as of today.
Then in June 2020, Tamra said that he finished treatment a few months before and getting stronger every day when one of her Instagram followers asked on her Instagram stories about Barney following his diagnosis. She further said that Barney is staying positive, and they were praying he won over cancer, but they didn’t know yet.
