Sidse Babett Knudsen is an actress. She has mainly gained fame as Birgitte Nyborg in the Danish TV series Borgen (2010-2022).

Who is Sidse Babett Knudsen?

Knudsen is a Danish television and film actress who holds numerous acting credits in the Hollywood entertainment industry. She began her acting career in 1994 with a minor role in the Danish language TV series Jo værre, jo bedre.

The minor debut role followed her first significant screen time in the 1995 TV series Juletestamentet. In this series, she played the recurring character Mercedes in around 23 episodes. It also led to her other small parts in films and TV series like Drengen de kaldte Kylling (TV Mini-Series 1998), Max (2000 film), Old, New, Borrowed, And Blue (2003 film), Proof (2004 TV series), The Fakir (2004 film), etc.

Knudsen landed her first leading role in the 2006 Danish language film After the Wedding. The film received an 'Oscar Award' nomination in 2007 in the category of 'Best Foreign Language Film of the Year.' Moreover, it also received 16 other nominations and won 9 awards. Knudsen's other notable acting works are The Duke of Burgundy (2014 film), 1864 (2014 TV mini-series), Westworld (2016 TV series), Vitello (2018 TV series), Borgen (2010-2022 TV series), etc.

Among them, Borgen was her most significant TV series. It is a Danish language political drama that airs on DR1 Network. Knudsen has appeared in 38 episodes, which is the most amongst all other series casts. It has three seasons till now, and the fourth season was set to air from February 2022. She has announced her involvement with Borden through her Instagram handle @sidsebabettknudsen on 12 January 2021. She posted a picture of the series' crew on the handle.

Age and Early Bio

The Danish actress Knudsen was born in Copenhagen, Denmark, on 22 November 1968. She took birth to her late father, Ebbe Knudsen, and her mother, Susanne Anderson. Knudsen spent most of her childhood years living outside her native country. She lived in the African country Tanzania with her parents, who had moved there for voluntary work. Moreover, it is in Tanzania she learned to speak English.

In an interview with inews.co.uk in 2016, she talked about her experience of growing up as a white ethnic kid in a black country. She added that she watched the students/kids getting hit in front of her in the school's boundary. It shocked her as she was from a progressive country where hitting children was a crime. Moreover, it shocked both Knudsen and her mother. Moreover, her mother asked her not to look at the scene. 

At 18 years of age, she relocated with her parents to Paris, France, where she completed her formal education. She attended a theatre school named Theatre de L'Ombre in 1987 and graduated from there in 1990.

Family

Knudsen's family includes her parents and two brothers, Niclas and Lasse Knudsen. Both her brothers work in the music industry.

Her father, Ebbe, was a professional photographer born on 26 October 1944 in Denmark. He passed away at the age of 67 on 7 January 2012. Ebbe held several credits in the entertainment industry's cinematography department as a still photographer. His notable works include Hvid mands saed (1972 TV movie), 92 Minutes of Yesterday (1978 film), Charly & Steffen (1979 film), Slingrevalsen (1981 film), etc. On the other hand, her mother, Susanne, is a school teacher.
