Early Bio
Shelby Simmons was born in Richmond, Virginia, the U.S. on 6 February 2002. She played the role of Princess Fiona in the musical Shrek in middle school. It was the first play Simmons ever played. Even though she was nervous about singing in the play, she eventually booked for the play and ended up adoring the role she played. She admired bringing her characters to life in her school plays.
As a child, Simmons wanted to be a ninja because of which she extensively watched karate movies to make herself prepared for that.
Early Career
Later, Simmons moved to Los Angeles, California, and soon landed a role in the comedy television series Game Shakers in 2017. She appeared in the role of Shanelle in the series’ episode titled ‘The Trip Trap.’ The same year, she was cast as Courage in the TV movie The Bugaloos. The following year, she appeared as a super fun guest star in an episode titled ‘Kook Thing’ of the musical comedy television series School of Rock, a television adaptation of the film of the same title. That year, she also made frequent appearances in the coming-of-age comedy-drama television series Andi Mack.
In 2018, Simmons appeared as Natalie in three episodes of the series.
In 2018, Simmons landed a lead role in the Netflix television series Prince of Peoria, in which she went on to play the role of Sydney from 2018 to 2019. The series follows the story of a prince who travels to the United States to experience life as an ordinary teen anonymously and establishes an unlikely friendship.
The series was released in two parts. The first part was released on 16 November 2018. A month later, the Christmas special was released before the second part of the series was released on 20 May 2019.
Simmons then guest-starred as Joss Moss in an episode titled ‘Double-O Danger’ of Nickelodeon’s action-comedy television series Henry Danger in 2019. That year, she also appeared in a half-hour television special Holidays Unwrapped: A Disney Channel Music Event aired on 8 December 2019.
‘Bunk’d’
In 2019, Simmons began starring in the role of Ava King in the hit comedy television series Bunk’d, created by Pamela Eells O’Connell. The series had first premiered on 31 July 2015 on Disney Channel as a spin-off to Disney Channel’s hit series Jessie (2011-15).
Plot and Cast
The series follows the story of Emma (Peyton List), Ravi (Karan Brar), and Zuri Ross (Skai Jackson), who head off to Maine to spend a summer at Camp Kikiwaka. The series also starred Miranda May as a camp in charge; Mallory James Mahoney, Raphael Alejandro, and Will Buie Jr. as campers; and Simmons and Israel Johnson as their counselors.
The series was renewed for Season 5 on 24 February 2020, and it premiered on 15 January 2021.
‘Raven’s Home’
Simmons appeared in two episodes of Disney Channel’s comedy family sitcom Raven’s Home in 2020 and 2021. The episodes were a crossover of Raven’s Home and Bunk’d, and Simmons played the same character which she played in Bunk’d.
‘Stargirl’ and ‘Selfie Dad’
In 2020, Simmons appeared as Hillary Kimble in the musical romantic comedy film Stargirl, adapted from Jerry Spinelli’s 2000 young adult novel of the same name. Simmons was delighted to be a part of the Disney film adaptation of ‘Stargirl’ since it was one of her favorite books.
Simmons was also one of the stars in the 2020 faith-based dramedy Selfie Dad, together with James Denton.
