Shawn Ellington is a racer and reality star infamously known as 'Murder Nova'. He is most recognized for his appearance on Discovery Channel's hit racing reality show Street Outlaws.

Who is Shawn Ellington?

Shawn Ellington was born on 15 November 1977 in Merced, California. In 1982, he moved to Sayre, Oklahoma, where his father Richard owned an auto body shop. 

Ellington grew up working with his father in his father's shop. He performed various roles from sweeping floors to wet sanding, and eventually, the paint gun. While working at his father's shop, Ellington developed his passion for cars.

He rose to prominence after starring on Street Outlaws. He has been a crucial part of Street Outlaws since the early beginning of the show, which premiered in 2013. He self-coined his nickname 'Murder Nova,' which is also the name of his infamous streetcar, 'Murder Nova' 1969 Chevrolet Nova.

Ellington co-owned an auto car parts business called Midwest Streetcars Automotive with fellow Street Outlaws star Justin Shearer, a.k.a. Big Chief. The duo also co-hosted The Chief and Shawn podcast, discussing Street Outlaws and their daily lives.

Ellington and Shearer eventually went separate ways in business. Ellington then opened his new shop called 187 Customs. In April 2020, he launched its eponymous YouTube channel.

Murder Nova

In 2005, Ellington moved to Oklahoma City and soon purchased a car that eventually became the Murder Nova. He made his fastest records with his 'Murder Nova' 1969 Chevrolet Nova on the street. But he choose to modify his car to stay competitive and remain the fastest street race car in the country. So he upgraded his streetcar from the original pro-charged power to the twin-turbo setup.

In May 2021, he transported his 187 Customs' Murder Nova from Oklahoma to Massachusetts to deliver to Dennis MacPherson and the team at DMC Racing to build an all-new chassis.

Wife

In 2005, Ellington married Erin, also known as 'mrs_murdernova' on Instagram. He frequently features his wife in his Instagram posts on several occasions like Valentine's Day, their anniversary, and her birthday, expressing his love for her. 

For instance, Ellington wished his wife 'Happy Valentine's Day' on 14 February 2019 on Instagram, alongside the image of the pair. He also called her his soulmate and best friend and thanked her for being a part of his 'crazy ass life' in the caption.

He later marked their 15th wedding anniversary on 16 December 2020, posting a picture of his wife on Instagram. He wrote, "Hard to believe that I found someone who has put up with my shit for 15 years. Happy anniversary. I love u (@mrs_murdernova) so much and thanks for everything u do and for holding this family together" 

The couple has one child named Aiden, who also takes after his father in the love of cars. Ellington's wife took to Instagram on 21 May 2020 to share that their son had just finished school and raced his car at Thunder Valley.

A year later, Ellington also shared on Instagram that he was proud of what Aiden was becoming, and he was excited to see what his son would do with his talent.
