Shahar Isaac is an Israeli-American actor known for his role Simon Peters on the series ‘The Chosen.’

Who is Shahar Isaac?

Isaac began his career in acting from the college theatre of his university. He was known for playing in the 2015 theatrical production Salome followed by Merchant of Venice and Two Gentlemen of Verona at the Shakespeare Theatre Company. Subsequently, in 2017, he played the role of Bar Giora in the National Theatre Live: Salome.

Along with theatre acting, Isaac also acted in the TV series Person of Interest, and Madam Secretary, and the 2017 film Price for Freedom.

In 2019, he appeared as Simon Peter on the BYU TV series The Chosen. The series was about the chosen disciples of Jesus Christ and their journey on transforming the world with Christ’s directives. His role Peter was one of the Disciples of Christ.

The Chosen was one of the most crowdfunded projects in history. It successfully raised $10 million for its first season and raised the same amount for its second season. The second season was released in 2021. The third season is in the process of funding.

Early Life

Shahar Isaac was born and raised in Israel. He moved to the United States and studied Fine Arts at Rutgers University. 

At the University, Isaac studied acting from veteran director/producer David Esbjornson and Barbara Marchant. Eventually, he began his acting journey from the college theatre.

Career

Isaac came to light in 2015 after he appeared as a minor character in Yael Farber’s theatrical play Salome at Shakespeare Theatre Company. Later in 2017, he played the lead role of Bar Giora in the National Theatre Live: Salome.

In addition to that, he also acted in Merchant of Venice and Two Gentlemen of Verona for the Shakespeare Theatre Company.

In 2015, he appeared as Tariq Al Juhani on the episode ‘Control-Alt-Delete’ of the TV series Person of Interest. In 2018, he starred as Salman on the episode ‘Phase two’ of Madam Secretary. Eventually, Isaac landed the role of Simon Peter on the 2019 released series The Chosen.

‘The Chosen’

The series was created and directed by Dallas Jenkins, and it was an independently funded project. The project was set up for crowdfunding in 2017, and it successfully raised $10 million in equity for its first season. It popularly became the most crowdfunded film or television project in history. Eventually, it aired on BYU TV.

The plot of the series revolved around the chosen disciples of Jesus Christ, which included a fisherman battling debt, followed by a disturbed lady fighting her inner demons, and a talented accountant who was shunned by his family and peers. The story proceeds to demonstrate the miracles of Christ and his mission to transform the world, portrayed through the perspective of the disciples.

Isaac played the role of Simon Peter, known as Peter in the bible. His character in the series establishes the first Christian Churches throughout the world as one of the twelve disciples of Christ.

Upon release in 2019, the series gained favorable reviews and received a 9.7/10 rating on IMDB. It was reported to have been watched by 50 million people around the world. The series again raised $10 million for its second season, and the same was released in 2021. The crowdfunding for the third season was also opened in 2021.

After the success of The Chosen, Isaac gained immense popularity and fanbase. However, he kept his relationships and personal information private.

According to his social media, Isaac is an avid traveler and likes to play guitar. He also holds an official photography website and is currently working on a photobook.
