Who is Rudolph Isley?

Rudolph Isley is an American singer and songwriter. Isley began his singing career at a young age, singing in church. He started singing alongside his brothers O'Kelly, Ronnie, and Vernon as a member of The Isley Brothers when he was a teenager.

The Isley Brothers was founded in 1954 by Rudolph, Ronald, Vernon, and O'Kelly Isley, Jr. Unfortunately, Vernon passed away at the age of 13 in 1955.

In 1955, The Isley Brothers relocated to New York after Vernon's death, searching for a recording contract. A few years later, he recorded and released his first recording, 'Shout,' along with The Isley Brothers in 1959.

Isley and his brothers established the T-Neck Records label in the 1960s to market their records. After separating from the Motown records, they revived the label and had a Grammy-winning hit, 'It's Your Thing' in 1969. While Ron was the group's primary lead singer, Isley recorded a few lead vocals on several Isley Brothers tracks once T-Neck was reactivated.

Some of the #1 albums of The Isley Brothers include Live It Up (1974), The Heat Is On (1975), Harvest for the World (1976), Go for Your Guns (1977), Showdown (1978), Between the Sheets (1983).

The group also has dozens of popular songs, including 'Shout (Part 1)', 'This Old Heart of Mine (Is Weak for You),' 'Love the One You're With,' 'Summer Breeze,' 'That Lady (Part 1)' and more. In addition, they've had four Billboard Top 10 hits in the United States.

In March 1986, Isley's elder brother, Kelly, died in his sleep of a heart attack. He was heartbroken by Kelly's death because the two brothers were close. As a result, eventually, Isley left the band and the music industry in 1989, after releasing the albums Smooth Sailin' and Spend the Night. After that, he went to pursue his career as a Christian minister.

In 1992, they were inducted into the Rock-and-roll Hall of Fame, and in 1997, they were listed on Hollywood's Rockwalk. The Isley Brothers were also enrolled in the Vocal Group Hall of Fame in 2003.
