It stars several famous actors like Jean Smart and Julianne Nicholson, with the 'Academy Award'-winning actress Kate Winslet in the leading role. Released on the HBO channel on 18 April 2021, the show has aired only one season with seven episodes. Out of which, Cruz has appeared on six episodes as the supporting character Jess Riley.


Ruby Cruz is a TV actress best recognized for her portrayal of Jess Riley in the HBO TV series Mare of Easttown (2021).

Who is Ruby Cruz?

Ruby Cruz is an emerging television actress. Cruz made her debut in the acting industry with the 2018 short film Aging Out, playing June's character in the short film. It followed her appearances in other short films, The Jump (2018) and Spin (2019).

The actress then landed her first TV role in the TV series Castle Rock (2019), in which she played Teen Annie. That year, she was also cast as Elsie in the TV Movie The Lost Boys.

In 2020, Cruz appeared as the guest character Amanda Webster in the award-winning CBS series Blue Bloods. She was featured in the episode 'Where the Truth Lies ' released on 10 January 2020.

She also appeared as Bea in the short film God is a Lobster the same year. Her other notable and recent acting works are in Mare of Easttown (2021 TV series). She is also set to appear in the 2022 TV series Willow as Kit in eight episodes.

'Castle Rock'

Castle Rock is a horror mystery TV series that premiered on the streaming platform Hulu on 25 July 2018. The series starred actors like Andre Holland, Lizzy Caplan, and Bill Skarsgard in the leading roles.

After a successful first season, the show creators renewed the show for its second installment. Moreover, they hired actress Cruz to play the teenage version of the show's main character, Annie Wilkes.

Cruz portrayed teen Annie in a total of two episodes in 2019. However, the second installation of the show concluded with ten episodes in it. The series was canceled after its second season.

Through its airing time on Hulu, the series has received at least 20 award nominations, including the 'Primetime Emmy Awards' in 2019. In addition, it won the 'Writers Guild of America (WGA) Award' in 2019 in the category of 'Long Form Original Series.'

'Mare of Easttown'

Mare of Easttown is a crime drama mini-series on the HBO channel. It stars several famous actors like Jean Smart and Julianne Nicholson, with the Academy Award-winning actress Kate Winslet in the leading role. 

The series follows Kate Winslet's character Mare Sheehan, a police detective who is struggling to solve the murder case of a teenage mother in the suburb of Philadelphia. 

Released on the HBO channel on 18 April 2021, the show has aired only one season with seven episodes. Out which, Cruz has appeared on six episodes as the supporting character Jess Riley.

The show won 19 awards and received 80 award nominations. Moreover, its list of award wins includes four 'Primetime Emmy Awards' in four different categories.

'Willow'

Willow is an upcoming fantasy drama TV series set to release in 2022 on Disney+. The series is based on the 1988 film of the same name.

The original film followed a storyline where an evil queen looks to prevent a prophecy that says that a child born in a tall family carrying a rune birthmark becomes the ultimate reason for her downfall. Thus, she captures all the pregnant Daikini (tall) women and plans on killing the child.

Reportedly, the upcoming series’ storyline will deviate from the story of the original film. Other than that, there is no authentic report available about the series’ plot.

Although the show production company Imagine Entertainment has not announced the release date yet, they began filming its episodes in June 2021. Moreover, the filming occurred in the same place as the original movie.

Cruz landed the female lead role alongside the serpent actress Elli Bamber. She is set to portray the character of Princess Kit in the series. Initially, the show negotiated with Vice actress Cailee Spaeny for the role. However, she was later replaced by Cruz.

Cruz has only recently ventured into the professional acting field. In a short career of 3 to 4 years, she has proved herself as a promising actress. She has accumulated several experiences in portraying the existing characters in TV shows and movies adaptation. Thus, it is not the first time Cruz has worked on a movie sequel/adaptation.

The other cast members of the Disney+ series are Warwick Davis, Erin Kellyman, Tony Revolori, Dempsey Bryk, etc. Moreover, Warwick Davis was also in the 1988 Willow movie as Willow Ufgood.

‘The Lost Boys’

The Lost Boys (2020) is a TV movie adaptation of the 1987 movie of the same name. The original movie was a horror comedy with lead actors Jason Patric as Michael Emerson and Kiefer Sutherland as David.

In the latest version of the movie, industry actor Branden Cook replaced Patric and Grand Hotel actor Lincoln Younes has come in for Sutherland. However, the names of the characters have changed from Michael to Garrett and David to Benjamin.

Cruz appeared in the 2020 film as the character Elsie, a replacement for Jami Gertz’s character Star in the original film. Elsie features in the film as the partner of Garrett.
