Storey went to Booker T. Washington High School and studied Performing and Visual Arts before going to Southern Methodist University to study acting and African American studies with a minor in psychology. After college, she married and had her first child, which eventually led her to work at Sprint. While alongside, she directed plays in local Dallas theaters. However, after she got divorced, Storey decided to leave Texas. She sold her home and belongings to focus on her acting career. She flew to Los Angeles to pursue her acting career full-time while raising her son, Jordan. In an interview with Soap Opera Digest in 2021, she explained, "I was very committed to him, but trying to balance motherhood and a career was a little tough at times."

Ptosha Storey worked at Sprint residential customer service and business accounts before committing to her acting dream. She got interested in acting while she was only seven years old. 

Storey went to Booker T. Washington High School and studied Performing and Visual Arts before going to Southern Methodist University to study acting and African American studies with a minor in psychology. After college, she married and had her first child, which eventually led her to work at Sprint. While alongside, she directed plays in local Dallas theaters. However, after she got divorced, Storey decided to leave Texas. She sold her home and belongings to focus on her acting career. She flew to Los Angeles to pursue her acting career full-time while raising her son, Jordan. In an interview with Soapoperasigest in 2021, she explained, "I was very committed to him, but trying to balance motherhood and a career was a little tough at times."

After settling in LA, Storey began her acting career. She appeared on television in the 1990s. She played a supporting role in the 1996 television film The Road to Galveston. Storey then starred in other Movies and TV shows like Wishbone (TV Series 1995–1998), Strong Medicine (TV Series 2000–2006), In the Closet (Movie 2009), The Soul Man (TV Series 2012–2016), Acrimony (Movie 2018), and more. In addition, she recently starred on the TV series The Young and the Restless from 2020 to 2021 followed by, The Oval from 2019 to 2021.

'Empire'

Storey played the role of Chyna in the television series Empire, released on 7 January 2015, from 2017 to 2018, for seven episodes. The show ran until 2019 for six seasons.

Empire follows Lucious Lyon, played by Terrence Howard, the record label's founder and CEO, who is diagnosed with ALS and must name one of his three sons to take over the company when he dies. In the meantime, his ex-wife and co-founder, Cookie, is released from prison. And she wishes to reclaim her rightful place in the company.

Storey was previously married to Billy Eugene Jones, an actor. The couple has a son named Jordan L. Jones. Eugene Jones was born in Atlanta, Georgia, on 25 July 1952. And his credits include Wishbone (1995), Hexed (1993), and Passing Strange (2009)

Jordan L. Jones, Storey's son with Billy Eugene Jones, was born on 1 March 1993 in the United States. As Storey raised her son as a single mother, Jordan proclaims her as his mother and father. On 17 June 2019, he wished Storey on the occasion of father's day and captioned on Instagram, "Happy Father's Day also to all the single moms out there making it happen when it looks impossible! this is not a knock on father's. my mother just also was my father. Happy Father's Day to my mother. Best Dad I could ever have."
