In an interview with People in 2019, Lynn said, "I remember teaching her how to ride a bike. I was on the move a lot so being able to do that was good. It was like a metaphor, when I let her go and she first started riding, it hit me that at some point I'll really have to let her go. That was a good moment."
Common revealed in his memoir 'Let Love Have the Last Word,' that his daughter thought he hadn't made enough effort to be more involved in her life.
Lynn revealed feelings of abandonment she had been holding in since childhood when the two of them sat down together. She told her father, "It felt like you didn't fight for me."
Common thinks issues related to his split from her mother largely brought that feeling on. He stated, "It's the typical things you hear about with two parents who are splitting up, especially young. With Lynn, "that love is obviously there. But it's like sometimes I wasn't able to have as much access and without that we couldn't build the strongest relationship."
He continued, "some of it was me being in the pursuit of my career, too. It was like, not only am I fulfilling a dream but I'm also using it to take care of her, the family."
Lynn and Common also had a therapy session together. "We had a therapy session together, and I loved it. Well, not everything that was said, but I knew it was something that would help her move forward," he explained to People in May 2019. As of now, the two have a good relationship.

On 9 May 2022, Common took to Instagram to share the news of her daughter graduating from law school.
In a brief video clip that he uploaded, Common is seen cheering as Lynn walks down the aisle to receive her diploma. He also expressed his pride in her in his writing.
He wrote, "There are no words to describe how proud I am! Finishing Law School at Howard University in the 3 years is pretty AMAZING. Congrats to my daughter and all the graduates of 2022. Now go out in the world and be great!"
