Milagros Ninette Corretjer Maldonado, alias Millie Corretjer, kicked off her career at 14 as a host of a Puerto Rican musical television show La ola nueva (The New Wave) in 1988. She also began her singing career as a teenager.
At the age of 18, Millie signed a long-term deal with EMI Latin (now Capitol Latin). In 1995, she released her debut album Sola, which featured two Spanish versions of Selena Gomez's songs such as 'Donde Te Has Ido Amor' ('Where Did the Feeling Go?') and 'Solo Tu' ('Only Love'). Three songs of the album debuted on the Billboard chart. The album also earned her the 'Lo Nuestro Award' nomination for 'Best New Artist.'
Two years later, she released her second album, Emociones (Emotions). Her third album, Amar es un Juego (Loving is a Game), released in 1999, made a gold record. The album included a song titled 'De Hoy en Adelante' ('From Now On'), which peaked at No. 1 on the Billboard chart and retained the position for more than six weeks.

On the day of the divorce, Corretjer made a Twitter post with the image of a little girl with a crown, captioning, "On the darkest days, when I feel inadequate, unloved and unworthy, I remember whose daughter I am and I straighten my crown."
