'The Biden Whisperer'

Memoli has been covering President Biden for nearly 14 years. He shared on his Twitter post that he first covered and interviewed Democratic Presidential Nominee Joe Biden in October 2007. Later, he lost in the opinion poll and became the former President Barack Obama's Vice-presidential running mate during the 2008 campaign.

In a February 2020 video titled 'The Biden Whisperer': NBC's Mike Memoli reflects on his years covering Joe Biden, Memoli shared that he traveled extensively with the then Vice President Biden during his White House years in his re-election campaigns. He had also traveled to different places around the world, including Europe, Middle East, and Asia, as a reporter for Los Angeles Times.

Memoli continued covering Biden on and off the trail. In 2020, he covered Biden's 2020 presidential campaign and served as the lead reporter for NBC News on the campaign trail. After Biden was elected as the President of the United States, Memeli covered Biden's selection of officers for his office.

For his years of covering Biden, his fellow journalists eventually named him the whisperer. As per The Hill, his senior NBC correspondent Andrea Mitchell referred to him as a 'reporter's reporter.' In an interview with SiriusXM in August 2020, Memoli shared that he first heard being called 'The Biden Whisperer' in 2015.

When The Hill columnist Joe Concha asked Memoli if the time he spent with Biden affected his ability to report on Biden fairly, he said that his "over-understanding" of the candidate allowed him to examine Biden better. "I've been called out once or twice during the campaign because I'm familiar to him, and because maybe I get the first question before others do. But I don't think I've found it hard to cover him with scrutiny and critically at all," Memoli told The Hill in November 2020.
