Who is Mike Golic?

Mike Golic, full name, Michael Louis Golic, is a former football player and currently a sportscaster.

He was enlisted by the team Houston Oilers in the 1985 NFL draft and played in the league for eight years, including stints with the Philadelphia Eagles and Miami Dolphins in conjunction with the Oilers. He participated in 115 games and five playoff games throughout his professional football career.

Golic began his broadcasting career while still playing for the Philadelphia Eagles. During that time, he launched his weekly piece, Golic's Got It, on The Randall Cunningham Show. He retired from his football career in 1995 and landed in ESPN to further his broadcasting career.

Age

Golic was born on 12 December 1962 in Willowick, Ohio. He is 58 as of November 2021.

Family

Golic grew up in a household of three siblings, including his two brothers Bob and Greg Golic, who are also football players. Bob, his older brother, was drafted as a Notre Dame Football player and spent 14 seasons in the NFL with the New England Patriots, Cleveland Browns, and Los Angeles Raiders.

ESPN

Golic joined ESPN in 1995 as a reporter and analyst for the segment Sunday NFL Countdown. He then co-hosted the morning radio broadcast Bruno-Golic Morning Show from 1998 to 1999.

During his stint at ESPN, Golic also contributed as a host to another radio program dubbed Mike and Mike from 2006 to 2017. From 2017 until 2020, he co-hosted Golic and Wingo, a talk-show program that aired on ESPN2 and later switched to ESPNEWS. His son, Mike Golic Jr., was also one of the hosts (a self-contributing host) in the talk show.

Golic worked for ESPN for over two decades until he resigned at the end of 2020.

In an exclusive conversation with The Athletic's Richard Deitsch in 2021, Golic revealed some information about his exit from ESPN. He stated that he left the network because his worth and contribution to ESPN had been undermined.

"When Mike and Mike ended, they still felt there was value in having me there. That's why the new morning show (Golic and Wingo) with me, Trey, and my son got going, but after that deal and contract was up, they just felt there wasn't any worth," he said.

In the early months of 2020, he was removed from the radio and talk show Golic & Wingo and was replaced by a new morning show. Golic worked as a college football commentator during the last few months of his tenure at ESPN in 2020.
