The stage actress debuted her career as a filmmaker with the 2011 animated short comedy film iBerry. She produced, directed, and acted in the short film. She also served as an animator, sound editor and provided digital effects for the short film. She also wrote, produced, and directed the 2011 short film Project Ryan and the 2013 short film Guardian Elf. Additionally, she wrote the 2014 short film The Evil Within.

She Has Been In Multiple Australian TV Series

Bonne then began appearing in Australian television series. Her first television role was Jazmyn in one episode titled 'Wild' of Network 10's comedy-drama series Wonderland in 2015. The following year, she appeared as Keisha Gibson in seven episodes of ABC's mystery crime drama series Janet King

In 2017, she appeared as Donna Fields in three episodes of the Seven Network romantic drama TV series Home and Away and Zoe Mendosa in five episodes of the ABC medical drama TV mini-series Pulse. The following year, she made a guest appearance in the ABC mystery TV series Harrow, portraying the role of Jo in the episode titled 'Lex Talionis.'

In February 2022, Back to the Bay reported that Melissa had originally filmed the arrival scenes of the female lead character Neve Spicer in August 2021 for the 2022 season of Home and Away, but the scenes were later filmed again in September with actress Sophie Bloom replacing Bonne.

'Reef Break' Was Her Big Break On Television

In 2019, Bonne landed her breakout role as Ana DuMont in the French-American seductive, action-packed one-hour drama series Reef Break

The series is set on an astonishing and fascinating Pacific Island paradise full of fast-paced, high-octane escapades and island intrigue. It follows the story of Cat Chambers (played by Poppy Montgomery), a thief-turned-fixer for the governor of the island paradise. Bonne portrayed the role of deputy governor of the island, who hires Cat to assist in catching criminals. 

ABC canceled the series after one season.

Most recently in 2022, Bonne appeared as Cynthia in Netflix's thriller series Pieces of Her, adapted from Karin Slaughter's 2018 novel of the same name.
