Matthew Clayton Flynn was born on 20 June 1985 in Tyler, Texas, to Alvin and Ruth Flynn. He is currently 36 years old. His father Alvin played quarterback at Baylor in the 1960s. Matt grew up with four siblings, two brothers Adam and Bill, and two sisters, Rebecca and Amanda.
Flynn attended Robert E. Lee High School and was coached by Mike Owens. He led his high school to the semifinals despite having his foot broken. In 2003, he attended Louisiana State University (LSU).
In 2004, Flynn also made a short appearance in the Capital One Bowl, where he completed 1 of 4 passes for 11 yards. During his fifth senior year, Flynn became a starter. On 7 January 2008, Flynn led LSU to a BCS National Championship where the team beat Ohio State. He was named MVP of the match, and the Tigers finished the season with the no. 1 ranking.

Unfortunately, Flynn's matches were not up to the expectation, which ultimately got him a demotion to third-string. On 7 October 2013, he was released by the Raiders after six-month tenure.
Flynn signed up with the Bills on 14 October 2013 with rookie and starting quarterback EJ Manuel. But, he did not get playtime during his tenure and primarily lived as an emergency replacement. Likewise, Flynn also worked as a backup on 12 November 2013 for starting quarterback for Green Bay Packers. Eventually, he was provided with a one-year contract, and during his final season, he appeared in four games. Flynn became a free agent on 8 March 2015.
Following that, Flynn had only a short-lived tenure. On 11 June 2015, he was signed to the New England Patriots but soon released on 10 August 2015 to create a room for Ryan Lindley. He was then signed by the New York Jets on 19 August 2015 for a one-year contract and was released on 5 September 2015.
