Matt Cornett is an American actor and singer. He is popularly known for his role as E.J. Caswell on the Disney+ series, 'High School Musical: The Musical: The Series.'

Matt Cornett is a multi-award-winning actor who is currently starring in the Disney+ series High School Musical: The Musical: The Series. Apart from that, he has appeared in television shows, including Life in Pieces, Game Shakers, and Criminal Minds.

Cornett was born in Rogers, Arkansas, USA, on 6 October 1998. Cornett is 23 years old as of 2021.

Family

He is the youngest son of Art and Rhonda Cornett. He grew up along with his siblings in an idyllic rural atmosphere. His family relocated to Los Angeles when he was 14 to pursue a career in acting. Despite moving to Los Angeles in 2012, he often returns to his hometown of Arkansas to spend time with his family. 

Career 

In 2012, Cornett moved to Los Angeles to start his Hollywood career. He has many credits as a guest star, recurring role, and pilot lead. Including movies, he has also been featured in national commercials and print campaigns. 

Cornett made his on-screen debut in 2012, appearing in a short film, Family Treasure. The same year, he would appear in the television series Nightmare U as Daniel. Subsequently, he appeared in one episode of Criminal Minds and The Middle. Likewise, he had recurring roles as Zach in Bella and the Bulldogs and Andrew in The Goldbergs. 

Cornett has also been cast in movies like Perfect Citizens, Stressed to Death, Inconceivable, among others. He also played the role of Logan in Alex & Me, which aired on Nickelodeon. 

'High School Musical'

Cornett is currently playing the role of EJ Caswell in the Disney+ series High School Musical: The Musical: The Series. The series first aired in 2019 and has won one award and received five nominations. 

His Role

In the series, Cornett plays the lead role of EJ, a student at East High. His on-screen partner is Nini at the start of Season 1. It is his first lead role. EJ is a jock who openly loves theatre. High School Musical: The Musical: The Series. 

The second season was a rollercoaster for Cornett's character. He expected to get into Duke and planned his future, but it did not happen. So instead, the second season was about self-discovery for Cornett's character. 

Cornett confessed in an interview that wrapping the second season was the most emotional day of his life. The second season shooting ended with the cast from the show coming together and singing different Broadway songs. The actor describes it as one of the most amazing experiences and a memory he will cherish forever. 

In September 2021, High School Musical: The Musical: The Series was renewed for a third season. Cornett would reprise his role again. Likewise, Olivia Rodrigo will reprise the role of Nini, and Joshua Bassett will resume the role of Ricky. 

New Projects 

Cornett has also been cast on other roles as well after his success in the HSMTMTS. He has been cast as Kyra Tantao in Law and Order: Special Victims Unit. He has also joined the cast of Zombies 3, which is the third installment of Disney Channel's hit Zombies movie franchise. He would play the role of Disney villain A-Lan. Cornett also mentioned in an interview with TooFab that he is thrilled about playing the role of a Disney Villain.

Music

Cornett sings his character EJ's songs on the High School Musical: The Musical: The Series soundtrack. He has also sung an original song for the series titled 'A Billion Sorrys.' However, unlike his HSMTMTS castmates, Cornett has not yet released any music of his own. 

For the series, Cornett has sung about nine different songs, including 'Breaking Free,' 'A Billion Sorrys,' 'What I've Been Looking For,' 'Start of Something New,' 'Little Saint Nick,' 'Last Christmas,' and 'Christmas (Baby Please Come Home).'

Cornett is not gay. He is in a long-term relationship with his girlfriend, Brookelynn Elizabeth. Brookelynn is a model, and the two have been dating for five years now. They often share posts of one another on Instagram.
