Mara Lane is an actress and producer. She is the wife of the famous actor, Jonathan Rhys Meyers.

Who is Mara Lane?

Mara Lane holds credits as an actress and producer. She has had roles in the TV series  Modern Music (2013) and Love Struck (2013). She started her career from the action thriller Venice Underground and did brief roles on TV series and short movies. 

In 2019, Lane was announced as a cast member of the neo-noir thriller American Night alongside personas such as Jonathan Rhys Meyers and Emile Hirsch. The movie, which was Alessio Jim Della Valle’s first directorship. However, the film hasn’t been released yet.

Lane is also set to portray the role of Isabella (an editor) in the comedy-drama movie The Cuisine War.

Before her career in the entertainment industry, Lane was a teacher at Sunday School. In addition, she is also a philanthropist. She is associated with Barretstown, an organization that provides therapeutic services to children living with cancer and other grave illnesses.

Career

Lane portrayed the role of a partygoer in the crime and thriller amalgam Venice Underground in 2005. She had also made a guest appearance as a Thai waitress in ‘Chuck Versus Phase Three’ episode of the TV series Chuck in 2010. Similarly, she went on to star in a comedy film, In a World… as a reality girl no. 2 in 2013. In the same year, she was featured in Tv series The Adventures of Lewis & Clark as Valley Mara, Love Struck as Meagan Takahashi, Modern Music as Candy, and a few short productions, namely, Prima Vera, Madrugada Quebrada, and Lately. She was also a cast member of the TV series The Brink in 2015. 

In addition, she had produced a video short You Are in 2014 and was an associate producer for the film Damascus Cover, released in 2017. She also served as an assistant producer in the adventure and drama amalgam Rajah, original title Edge of the World, in 2021.

Before her involvement in the entertainment industry, she braced the teaching profession at Sunday school.

Marriage

In 2013, Lane began dating Jonathan Rhys Meyers, an actor who appeared in the television series Vikings (2013-2020). After a few years of dating, in 2016, the couple announced their engagement and got married. Their son, Wolf, was born in December of the same year.

Lane’s affection for Meyers was well-known, as she regularly posted images and messages for him on Twitter. 

“Congratulations Sweetheart on your award at the #IrishPostAwards. So lovely to share this wonderful evening w you. Xo”, Lane had posted a congratulatory message for her then-boyfriend on Twitter in October 2014.

Child and Miscarriage

Wolf Rhys Meyers is the first child of Meyers and Lana. He was born on 15 December 2016. A year later, in September 2017, Lane disclosed through her Instagram that the couple lost their yet-to-be-born second child to miscarriage. The fetus, named Willo, was buried in their front yard beneath a tree.

Lane captioned a picture of sunlight beaming through the branches of a tree on her Instagram referring to the incident, “I have been given peace and Baby Willow is now planted in the tree in front of our home that has weeping long branches and leaves so we can brush our faces in soft leaves in passing or we can see the baby dance with the wind in the branches as they sway. It is helping me process the situation as Nature does.”

Husband's Struggle

Meyers had a history of struggle with alcoholism. First enrolling into a Malibu rehab facility in 2005 to seek treatment for alcohol abuse, he again returned to the facility two years later in 2007. Lastly, in 2009, he made his third visit to the rehab center. 

After a series of relapse battles with alcoholism, Meyers experienced another relapse in 2017 after learning of his wife Lane’s miscarriage. Meyers turned to alcohol to cope with the devastating news at the time, according to Lane.

“Depression is a real concern from past abuse as well as alcoholism which he was born with. He has been able to turn any ugliness and hurt in his life into art and is the strongest person I know,” Lane wrote on Instagram beside a picture of a woman petting a lion in 2017.

“I do not know anyone who has been through what he has been through and reached his level of success. It does seem though that every time we seem to be making so much progress… sometimes it’s like two steps forward, one step back”, she added.

The Flight Fight

According to airport police, Meyers and Lane were heading to Los Angeles from Miami with their son Wolf in 2018 but got into a verbal altercation with Lane. Their disagreement stemmed from Meyers’ use of an electronic cigarette.

A passenger in the flight told DailyMail that Meyers screamed, “F*** you, I’m divorcing you!” to his wife when she requested him to put away his e-cigarette on the plane. He was detained by the police authorities as soon as the plane landed.

Lane later clarified on Instagram that Meyers was endeavoring to work out his anger issues and that the incident on the airplane was not serious. 

“8 months of sobriety and an unfortunate day of airline travel,” she wrote. “We were in South America specifically working holistically through anger issues that result in these kinds of episodes. When in it… he is not in a frame of mind where he can really even comprehend the repercussions and necessary response to his own actions. J IS extremely sorry for any inconveniences caused to anyone traveling yesterday”, she further added to her statement on Instagram.
