Leela James gained popularity when she toured as an opening act for The Black Eyed Peas and Macy Gray in 2004. Her first album was A Change Is Gonna Come, released on 21 June 2005. After that, on 24 March 2009, she released her second album, Let's Do It Again. Followed by her third album, My Soul, released on 24 May 2010 and was on no. 7 of the US' Hip/Hop/ R&B Chart'.
James released her fifth studio album, Fall For You, on 8 July 2014, and the album's songs 'Say That' and 'Fall For You' reached the 'Top 15' of the 'Billboard Urban AC Charts.'
