Former MSNBC Producer

Griffin grew up in the city of New York. As a teenager, he was well aware of his homosexuality. He told Logo in 2019 that he lacked the strength to come out at the time and could not consequently perceive a direction in life. Later, when he eventually found the fortitude to come out, it led to new opportunities in both his personal and professional life.

Who is Kyle Griffin?

Before MSNBC, Griifenhe was involved in other channels, including WNYT NewsChannel 13 and NBC News.

Early Life and Education

Griffin grew up in the city of New York. As a teenager, he was well aware of his homosexuality. He told Logo in 2019 that he lacked the strength to come out at the time and could not consequently perceive a direction in life. Later, when he eventually found the fortitude to come out, it led to new opportunities in both his personal and professional life. 

Griffin graduated from The College of Saint Rose in 2008 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Arts, majoring in communication and English. Subsequently, he began his Master of Professional Studies in Strategic Public Relations and Political Management at George Washington University in 2008 and graduated in 2010. He is also an alumnus of New York University, where he pursued Television and Screenwriting. He graduated from the university in 2021.

Career

Griffin built an interest in journalism during high school. He used to host the morning announcements at his high school that would later lead him to WNYT NewsChannel 13, an NBC affiliate in Albany, New York. From 2006 to 2008, Griffin interned and worked in the news channel as a production assistant. Subsequently, from March 2008 to September 2008, he interned as a production assistant at another news channel, MSNBC.

After completing his internship at MSNBC, he spent about a year, from 2008 to 2009, as an associate producer for Early Today at NBC News.

Then later in 2009, Griffen started working as a video producer for shows such as Politics NationThe Ed Show, and MSNBC Live at MSNBC from 2009 to 2012. He then worked as a TV associate producer at Yahoo! for about three months in 2013. After that, he was associated with Seven Network Limited as a senior producer from 2013 to 2015. He returned back to MSNBC in 2015 as segment producer of its political show, The Last Word. He worked for the designation from 2015 to 2019. As of now, he has been working as a senior producer of The Last Word since 2019.

On His Sexuality

Griffin resides in Manhattan as per his Twitter bio. He is an openly gay man. In an interview with Logo in 2019, he expressed pride in his sexuality and being able to voice out the issue and contingency of the community through journalism. He also retrospected about the monumental decision of 2015 in favor of LGBTI!+ rights.” I remember where I was in 2015 when the Supreme Court said that gay marriage was legal in all 50 states. And I remember the euphoria that I felt that I got to not only experience that as a gay man, but also the honor that I felt that I got to cover it and that I got to write stories about it for people that mattered”.

He further added in regards to his sense of duty, “And obviously now in the past couple years, when LGBT issues are in the community as under assault a bit, I feel now more than ever before, a sense of pride and a sense of duty to make sure that issues that are affecting our community are heard.”

Husband

Griffin is married to Joel Meares, the editor in chief for Rotten Tomatoes. The couple got married on 3 October 2015. They initially met through a mutual friend in 2009.
