Kurt Fuller is an American character actor famous for his role as Woody Strode in the USA Network’s mystery comedy-drama series Psych.

Who is Kurt Fuller?

Kurt Fuller is a stage and screen actor born on 16 September 1953 in San Francisco and raised in San Joaquin Valley, California.

Fuller graduated from Lincoln High School in Stockton, California. He then earned a degree in English Literature from the University of California, Berkeley.

After completing his education, Fuller moved to Los Angeles, where he began his acting career in the theater. His stage roles included the leading role of Frank in Steven Berkhoff’s hit satirical comedy play Kvetch (1986). 

Fuller also worked as a Realtor for a decade before making his television debut in 1984 at age 31 on Knight Rider. Since then, he has appeared in more than 200 television and film projects.

Fuller’s notable film credits include The Running Man (1987), No Holds Barred (1989), Ghostbusters II (1989), Wayne’s World (1992), Anger Management (2003), and Midnight in Paris (2011). He also notably appeared in television shows like Psych (2006-2014) and Supernatural (2005-2020). 

Movies and Television Shows

Fuller’s extensive acting credits included more than 100 television shows and over 50 films. He debuted his onscreen acting career, portraying the role of cameraman in one episode of the television series Knight Rider in 1984.

He then appeared in television shows, including Wildside, Cagney & Lacey, Sledge Hammer!, Beverly Hills Buntz, Jake and the Fatman, and It’s Garry Shandling’s Show in the 1980s. 

Fuller also made his film debut as Tony in the 1987 film The Running Man and quickly made his name in Hollywood with movie roles like Brell in No Holds Barred (1989), Herdemeyer in Ghostbusters II (1989), Russell in Wayne’s World (1992).

Fuller’s 1990s television shows credits included Glory Days, Quantum Leap, L.A. Law, Murder, She Wrote, Diagnosis Murder, and Timecop. In the 2000s, he appeared on Malcolm in the Middle, The Tick, Boston Public, The West Wing, Alias, Desperate Housewives, and My Name Is Earl.

From 2009 to 2014, Fuller portrayed his breakout role as quirky coroner Woody Strode in 33 episodes of Psych. He reprised the role in the Psych movie series such as Psych: The Movie (2017), Psych 2: Lassie Come Home (2020), and Psych 3: This is Gus (2021).

Fuller also notably appeared in a recurring role of Zachariah on Supernatural from 2009 to 2010. His other television shows in the 2010s included Better with You, Scandal, Parenthood, Manhattan Love Story, The Good Wife, Kings of Con, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, The Truth About the Harry Quebert Affair, Heathers, Black-ish, and The Good Fight.

Most recently, he played Dr. Kurt Boggs on the television series Evil, and Woody Strode in the television movie Psych 3: This Is Gus.

‘Psych 3’

Psych 3: This Is Gus is the third installment of the Psych television movies. Based on Steve Franks’ television series Psych, the television movie was directed by Franks, who co-wrote the screenplay with James Roday Rodriguez.

Psych 3: This Is Gus follows Burton “Gus” Guster (played by Dulé Hill) and Shawn Spencer (played by Rodriguez). They both go rogue in an attempt to track down an estranged husband of Selene (played by Jazmyn Simon) before Gus and Selene’s marriage and the birth of their baby.

Fuller portrayed the role of Dr. Woodrow Juniper “Woody” Strode, the coroner operating at the Santa Barbara Police Department (SBPD) from Season Four of Psych. 

Wife

On 24 December 1993, Fuller married Jessica Hendra, an actress known for her works in television series like Star Trek: Deep Space Nine and Mad About You. 

The couple together has two children. They welcomed their first child, Julia, in 1998 and their second child, Charlotte, in 2001.
