Calling out her Uncle
In 2020, Chirico posted a Tweet to criticize her uncle, Steve Chirico, Mayor of Illinois State, for not wearing a mask at his daughter's wedding in Florida. She tweeted, addressing organizers in Naperville, "He's not sorry, and that's a tremendous insult to you and your families. He should be held accountable. Demand updates. You belong in your community, too. Your safety matters. YOU matter. I'm rooting for you."
Her comments came after a broadly circulated photo of Steve Chirico and his family standing close together at his daughter's wedding without wearing masks. In an email to NBC News, Steve Chirico addressed that he went to Florida to attend the wedding with 53 guests. In addition, Steve said in a statement, "My family and I all took COVID tests and tested negative prior to traveling to Florida this weekend for my daughter Jenna's wedding."
Brian Hubble
