Kim Delaney first made her television debut in 1981 as Jenny Gardner Nelson on All My Children. She was a regular at the show until 1984.

She then landed the part of Detective Diane Russell on NYPD Blue in 1995, and it became one of her most prominent roles. She appeared in 132 episodes of the series from 1995 to 2003. For the role, Delaney also won an 'Emmy Award' for 'Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series' in 1997.

Delaney has also starred in other TV series like Philly (2001-2002), CSI: Miami (2002), The O.C (2005), and many more.

From 2007 to 2012, she landed another famous role as Claudia Joy Holden in the television series Army Wives.

Age and Early Life

Kim Delaney was born on 29 November 1961 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to her father, Jack Delaney, and mother, Joan Delaney. Delaney grew up in Roxborough. As of December 2021, she is 60 years old.

Delaney's father worked as a committeeman for the United Auto Workers at Delphi Automotive. She has two younger brothers, Keith and Patrick, and two older brothers, Ed and John.

Delaney began her modeling career during her high school days, working for the Elite modeling agency. After graduation, Kim continued modeling in Philadelphia and then moved to New York City, quickly winning commercials. She also studied acting with William Esper in New York.


Delaney is still working as an actress and appeared in the long-running daytime drama series General Hospital from 2020 to 2021. In the series, she played Jackie Templeton, which was played by Demi Moore in the early 1980s. For her performance as Jackie, Delaney was nominated for a 'Daytime Emmy Award' in 2021.

Delaney first married actor Charles Grant in 1984. However, the couple divorced in 1988. She then married American History X movie actor Joe Cortese in 1989. After one year, they welcomed a son Jack Cortese in 1990. Unfortunately, the two parted ways after five years in 1994. 

In 1997, Delaney got engaged to the Hitchcock movie producer Alan Barnette. However, they separated in 2006 without getting married. As of now, she keeps her dating life private.


Delaney has a son with Joe Cortese named Jack Cortese, born in 1990.

In 2005, Delaney lost custody of Jack, who was 15 at the time, after he testified in court that she endangered his life by drunk driving. Jack also said that Delaney showed up at his friend's house drunk. 

He said, "I attempted to keep her from driving her car, but she was very demanding. My mother demanded that my friend go with us. He refused to drive with her because she was drunk. Unfortunately, this is not the only incident in which I have seen my mother drunk."

Delaney's custody was revoked after Jack's testimony, and she checked into the Promises rehab center in Malibu after the ruling. Prior to this incident, Delaney was arrested for drunk driving on 26 January 2002.

As of 2021, Delaney and Jack have a good relationship and spend time together on special occasions.
