Kelvin Harrison Jr. was born to musicians Shirlita and Kelvin Harrison Sr. on 23 July 1994, in New Orleans, Louisiana. He was raised in the Garden District before moving to the Westbank. 

His father is a saxophonist and pianist whereas, his mother is a jazz vocalist, which made him dislike music at the time and led him to pursue acting instead.

Harrison Jr. went to a private high school and struggled to fit in as one of the few black students in his class. He initially went to Loyola University New Orleans to major in studio engineering because his father thought he would thrive in music. However, Harrison eventually moved to the University of New Orleans to study film, planning to write and direct movies.
