Michaelsen's family moved to Beverly Hills in 1975, and she quickly became a guest star on sitcoms like Diff'rent Strokes, and Eight Is Enough. Michaelsen attended the University of California, Los Angeles, after graduating from Beverly Hills High School in 1979.

In the end, we just let it go. It was too painful to watch someone you care about killing himself,” she said at the time. Unfortunately, Gibb, 30, died of heart inflammation a few years after their separation.
