Early Life & Career
Bridges began his athletic journey at an early age. He played every sport growing up except for hockey. He was passionate about baseball while going into high school. But it was wrestling that he genuinely fell in love with and decided to focus on it.
Upon graduating from high school, Bridges worked at telemarketing. Later, he started working as a loan officer who would talk about subprime loans. Two years after working as a loan officer, Bridges met a guy who mentioned his lifelong motive to be a Navy SEAL. He eventually became friends with the guy, and the idea started to appealing Bridges. So, after doing some research, he started working out and maintaining a healthy lifestyle.
In 2007, he got pinned by Admiral Olsen and was proud of where he was and what he had accomplished. Later, he left for the war in Iraq and Afghanistan. Unfortunately, he dislocated his left knee on his last deployment. After much contemplation, he left the military in 2015.
Simultaneously, he started doing CrossFit after learning that many workouts they provided were excellent preparation for SEAL training. Bridges was 22 years old when he first made his mind up.
He has been a CrossFit athlete since 2005. Bridges has won three out of five regional competitions he competed in. In addition, he has finished on or near the podium in three out of his four Games appearances. He made his career-best finish of second in 2011.
Bridges failed to qualify for the 2015 Reebok CrossFit Games. However, he made his comeback in 2016 after retiring from the military, taking a 13th place finish as the oldest at five-foot-five, shortest- individual male at the Games that year.
In addition, he also coaches wrestling to young kids. According to his website, Bridges offers programs for mental preparation, physical programming, and a complete collection. The program also provides information about injury prevention and how to stay healthy as an athlete, which he did not know while learning about training. He admits it might be a reason that he dislocated his left knee.
Most recently, in a September 2021 match, Jacob Heppner beat Bridges in a boxing match. The two CrossFit veterans went toe to toe in the ring as the undercard fought.
Bridges has a massive tattoo of an eagle head paired with trident and chains that cover his entire left arm. The tattoo was done by Ed Slocum in February 2018. The tattoo also has the DNA of his two sons.
