Joseph William Gilgun is an English actor well-known for his roles as Vinnie O'Neill in the Sky One series Brassic and Eli Dingle in the ITV soap opera Emmerdale.
Joseph made his television debut as a child artist on Coronation Street between 1994 and 1997. He quit the project when the actress who played his on-screen mother left. However, in 2004, Gilgun returned to the set in an ITV special called The Kids from Coronation Street.
Gilgun took a break from acting and worked part-time in local and national stage productions, including Hanky Park the Musical at the Lowry. He played Charlie Millwall in one of the touring productions of Borstal Boy.
In 2006, he returned to acting full-time and landed the roles of Woody in the movie This Is England and Eli Dingle in the series Emmerdale.
On 9 May 2011, Gilgun was cast as newcomer Rudy in the third series Misfits. It premiered in late October 2011. Gilgun also starred in the fifth and final series of Misfits in 2013. He also played Carmichael in the BBC series Ripper Street.
