Jessica Raine is an English actress who began her professional acting career as a stage actress. She starred in the leading role of the Jacobean tragedy, The Changeling at the Young Vic. She also appeared in plays like Rocket to the Moon, Ghosts, and Punk Rock, for which she won the ‘Manchester Evening News Award’ for ‘Best Supporting Actress.’
Raine first appeared on television in 2009, guest-starring in an episode of the biographical drama television series Garrow’s Law. She then landed her breakout role as nurse Jenny Lee in the historical television drama series Call the Midwife (2012-2014).
Raine also appeared in several other television series and miniseries, including Doctor Who, Line of Duty, Wolf Hall, Fortitude, Partners in Crime, The Last Post, Patrick Melrose, and Informer.

Raine was born Jessica Helen Lloyd on 20 May 1982 in England. She grew up on a farm near Eardisley, Herefordshire.
Raine studied drama at the University of West England before taking a gap year to serve as an English teacher in Thailand. After returning to England, she enrolled at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts, from where she graduated with a bachelor’s degree in acting in 2008.

Baby
Raine became pregnant with her first baby in 2018, but she publicly announced her pregnancy later in January 2019 at a screening for BBC One’s debut drama series Baptiste. She gave birth to her first son the following month. She and her husband Goodman-Hill have been keeping their son’s name private.
While attending the screening of Baptiste and Q&A of the show, she revealed she filmed stunts while pregnant. Raine said she neglected to tell the production team when she took the job.
However, she later broke the news on the set. She and the team then worked out to do stunts safely. She also said that she was “interested most in food on this job” and her shirts got bigger as the series went on.
In an interview with express.co.uk in July 2019, she said she had weird cravings for turkey sandwiches when she was pregnant. She said, “All I wanted to eat was turkey and cranberry with stuffing – basically like a Christmas sandwich. It was odd but it was what I needed.”
She shared her experience about having a baby as “fantastic, joyous, and all the feelings all at once.” She said being pregnant and having a child changes a person and puts many things in perspective.
