Emily Olivia Leah Blunt was born on 23 February 1983 in London, England. Her mother, Joanna, was an actress, and her father, Oliver, was a barrister. She grew up with three other siblings and was the second child of her parents.
While growing up, she had trouble speaking like other children and often stuttered during the conversation. Her family members, including her close uncle, cousin, and grandfather, had similar speech impediments. She was bullied in school. One of her teachers asked her to ‘spit out’ when she could not convey her words properly. So, to hide her insecurity, she started talking in funny voices to talk fluently. Blunt gradually learned to overcome her impediment through acting and later became one of the influential activists on spreading the importance of normalizing such difficulties and overcoming them.
Blunt joined the school theater while making different funny voices in class. When she was 12, one of her teachers offered to try the class play when he heard her doing voices.
