Allen's band has had quite a sizable catalog since its humble beginnings in the late 1950s. It released dozens and dozens of studio albums and are also known for their holiday albums. The country quartet has maintained the same lineup for many decades; Duane Allen, Joe Bonsall, William Lee Golden, and Richard Sterban have been performing together for more than four decades.


Duane Allen is an Eight-time Grammy-nominated American singer and president and CEO of The Oak Ridge Boys. 

How Old Is Duanne Allen?

Born in Taylortown, Texas, Duane (“Ace”)  Allen was born on 29 April 1943 and is a Taurus. His age is 78 as of January 2022. He has had formal training in both operatic and quartet singing. He holds an honorary doctorate from a Christian College.  He is a member of the Texas Gospel Music Hall of Fame. He has also written a book on the history of Gospel music. He has been the president of Oak Ridge Boys since April 1966 and also remains the main singer. The band launched its new album Home Down Christmas in 2019, which is about a homeless little seven-year-old girl and her mother. 

Early Bio

Duane graduated from Paris Junior College and then received a B.S. in Music from Texas A&M University at Commerce, Texas. For his classical music degree, Duane concentrated on voice, piano, and composition. He has received the Distinguished Alumni Award from both Paris Junior College and Texas A&M. Back in 2014, Duane gas also received a memorial bridge honor in his hometown in Texas.

The country quartet has maintained the same lineup for many decades; Duane Allen, Joe Bonsall, William Lee Golden, and Richard Sterban have been performing together for more than four decades. Despite having gone through the phase of grievances in the past, they have lived through it. 

The quartet was inducted into the Texas Country Music Hall of Fame on 9 August 2014. An Oak Ridge Boys’ exhibit at the Hall of Fame was unveiled the same day.  

The group has 12 gold, three platinum, and one double platinum album, one double platinum single, and has more than a dozen national Number One single and over 30 Top Ten hits. In 1977,  their single 'Easy,' although not released in the U.S., reached the Number Three slot in Australia. 

Wife

He married Norah Lee Allen and has a daughter and son with her. His wife Norah Lee is a well-known background vocalist and a member of Grand Ole Opry since the eighties. She has also toured with the group The Chuck Wagon Gang. She has also served as a session singer and background singer on numerous TV shows.

The pair have two grandsons and two granddaughters. The couple also underwrites scholarship funds for Texas A&M University Department of Music students.

Illness and Retirement

No reliable data on his health/illness has been found but Allen stated in a 2015 interview with The Boot that he would keep touring and doing 150 shows per year as long as he remained healthy.

"I have thought about retiring. I’m a methodical business man. I draw up plans for everything. Everything’s in writing with me. Everything’s off the computer. I draw up everything in a business model. I have all my career." Allen said on retirement. "I’ve tried to draw up a business model on how to retire, and I run up against a brick wall, and I finally just quit trying," he adds. "I don’t know how to retire."

In the interview, he also presented a concern for employees of his "age" at the office. He said those individuals would find it hard to land another job if h1e was to quit.
