In an interview with Screen Rant, Danny Trejo was asked what made him trust Donal Logue enough to help him tell his story. Trejo responded, "I wanted to write this book, every time I got a writer they were great English Literature Majors. I needed somebody that could write English Literature but knew the streets. He (referring to Logue) grew up on the border, so he didn't only know the streets, he knew the alleys."

On top of that, they had already established a close bond as friends.
