Claressa Shields is an American professional boxer.
She was born on 17 March 1995 in Flint, Michigan, to Marcella Adams and Bo Shields. Shields did not have a happy childhood, as her father was in prison and her mother was a drug addict. So, she had to live with her maternal grandmother, Joanne Adams.
Growing up, Claressa was inspired by the story of boxing legend Muhammad Ali and his daughter Laila Ali. She went to learn boxing from her coach Leon Rawson while attending Flint Northwestern High School. During her high school years, Claressa won two Junior Olympic National Championships.
In 2011, she became National Pal Champion and went on to win the Olympic Gold medal in the 2012 London Olympics. With this achievement, she wrote history as the first American woman ever to win Olympic gold in boxing.
Furthermore, Claressa is a 2013 USA Boxing Youth National Champion, 2014 and 2015 USA Boxing National Champion. In 2015, she became the first American woman to win the gold medal in boxing in the Pan American Games Championship. The USA Boxing Federation named her the 'Female Athlete of the Year.' Adding to her winning list, Claressa won Gold in the 2016 Rio Olympics.

About having a child in her life, in an interview with Yahoo Sports, Claressa said, "I just love having her, even though it's a huge responsibility. It makes me slow down and think, and that's a good thing."
However, Claressa's happiness did not last long as her cousin came back and asked to return the child. She even accused her of kidnapping her daughter. Though the accusation did not have any base, Claressa lost custody of the child.
