He first ventured into a weather reporting career as a weather producer for 6ABC in October 2000. Later in October 2005, he moved to WKNY-TV in Bowling Green, Kentucky, and began working as a Chief Meteorologist.
Sowers stayed at WKNY for over two years before moving to WFLD-TV, Chicago, Illinois, in October 2008. He spent another two years and four months at WFLD and returned back to 6ABC in May 2011. Since then, Sowers has remained the main meteorologist of 6ABC Action News for more than ten years now.

“It’s official, I’m now a daddy! Baby Sowers arrived yesterday evening at 5:40 pm. She was 6 pounds 7 ounces, 19 3/4 inches long. We named her Paige Elizabeth.”
He Was Into Weight Training.
Besides meteorology and weather reporting, Sowers is also fascinated with working out, including weight training and marathon. On 19 June 2020, he shared a throwback picture from 20 years ago on his Twitter handle when he was ripped and muscular. As per the tweet, Sowers was at 6% body fat during that time and loved doing heavy squats. He wrote,
“This was 20 years ago in Sea Isle City. I was big into weights back then. 6% body fat, squatting 375 for reps. My protein and calorie intake was insane! I felt like all I did was eat and lift. I don’t do much weight training anymore, just cardio. Swim and run.”
He Had A Hernia Surgery
Back in 2018, Sowers was diagnosed with a hernia and needed surgery to get through it. He shared the information about his health and successful surgery via a tweet on 7 June 2018. Alongside the news, he also posted a picture of himself on a hospital bed. His tweet read,
“Surgery today was a success! Very sore and sleepy, but doing good. Medium size Murphy is laying right beside me. He's a good boy. Lol”
