Chico Benymon is an actor known for the TV series ‘Half and Half’ and ‘The Haunted Hathaways.’

Who Is Chico Benymon?

Chico Benymon began his career as an actor and later became a producer, director, and singer. At 26, he made his small-screen debut from the television series Grown Ups in 2000. Following that, he acted in several series including, Moesha, Half and Half, The Game, and Let’s Stay Together.

Subsequently, he made his big-screen debut in the 2001 film Ali. Then he appeared in other movies like Where is Love Waiting, Life Is Not a Fairytale: The Fantasia Barrino Story, Cuttin da Mustard, Perfect Combination, Speed Dating, and House Arrest.

Benymon has also produced movies, including Dos and Don’ts of Dating and The Perfect Date, released in 2018 and 2020, respectively. At the same time, he was also an assistant director in one episode of Roll Out Live with Speedy N Friends.

Chico Benymon was born Theron D. Benymon on 7 August 1974 in Amityville, New York.

Career

Benymon made his acting debut in 2000 from the television series Grown Ups. After that, he appeared in several shows including Moesha in 2000 and 2001, followed by a recurring role in Half and Half, from 2002 to 2006, The Game in 2007, and Let’s Stay Together in 2012.

Then in 2001, he made his film debut from the infamous movie Ali. He then appeared in Where is Love Waiting as James and Life Is Not a Fairytale: The Fantasia Barrino Story as Rodney Birks in 2006. The actor also featured in other movies like Cuttin da Mustard in 2009, Perfect Combination and Speed Dating in 2010, and House Arrest in 2012. 

Besides his multiple involvements, Benymon is recognized for his roles in the series Half and Half and The Haunted Hathaways.

‘Half and Half’

Half and Half aired from 2002 to 2006 and lasted for four seasons. The show was about two half-sisters, Mona and Dee Dee, who did not know about each other’s existence even though they had the same father. Instead, they encounter each other as adults living in the same building. And, being the complete opposite of each other, they find ways to become siblings.

Benymon played the role of Mona’s best friend and colleague, Spencer Williams. His character maintains good relationships with the sister while at one point even dates Mona.

This show became one of the most-watched series of the UPN network, and it was nominated several times at the NAACP Image Awards.

However, after the fourth season in 2006, CW Network acquired the UPN network. Unfortunately, during the acquisition, the network did not pick Half and Half for other seasons. Nevertheless, Netflix announced in 2020 that they got the right to the television series.

‘The Haunted Hathaways’

In 2013, he landed the role of Ray Preston in the tv series The Haunted Hathaways. He appeared in 48 episodes of the series.

Created by Robert Peacock, the show embarked on a story of Hathaway’s family. The family with a single mother and two daughters moves to a house in New Orleans from New York, where they find out that they would be accompanied by a ghost family of a single father with two sons.

The show was aired by Nickelodeon and lasted for two seasons.

Music

In 2017, Benymon launched his original music with the single ‘Love Affair.’ Then in 2018, he released another single, ‘Good Time.’ Then in 2019, he released his first album, Don’t Talk Just Listen.

Wife & Kids

Benymon has not revealed any information on his relationships or wife. However, he is a father of four kids. In July 2021, he posted an Instagram picture with his two sons and two daughters while visiting Disneyland.
